A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[ Hanyuu herself is here.

She's a bit more stable now, but exhaustion has gotten to her greatly, and people who weren't in the fight might now notice that the chip on her horn has grown a little larger. Not by a significant amount, but by enough that it's noticeable.

She doesn't seem to be moving much from her spot, but she seems to be much more relaxed, or at least as someone who's overdone it can be.

If anyone wishes to speak with her, she's here, at the very least. Even if her gaze isn't entirely there. ]

[-- is all the warning that Hanyuu gets before someone teleports next to her (rather than walking the two yards previously between them,) and tries to hug her. Yuuto
isn't doing much better, with blood on his clothes and a freezing cold touch, but you'd hardly guess it with how bright his smile is.]

You did it! I knew that you would!

[ She's definitely rather startled out of her skin, looking clearly surprised. ]

Um, you really don't need to call me that... and more importantly, I didn't really do much.

[Yuuto may be forward with the initial burst of emotion, but he quickly pulls back politely. Even then, his smile is bright and his power is causing petals to hang in the air around them.]

Of course you did! You called everyone together and organized this... This would never have happened without you! Thank you so so much!!

[aupologizes]

Aha...ha...

[ She laughs awkwardly. It's so strange to be put in the spotlight like this. ]

It's really no problem. Really.

[Yuuto releases the hug entirely, but his hands are on the blanket now and he's leaning forward eagerly. Behind him, the 'tail' of his belt is swaying slowly in response to his power.

inaba might be onto something.]

How are you feeling, though? Okay? Have you eaten? Can I do anything for you? To repay you? Make you happy?

[aupologizes]

Ah. Uh. Um.

[...]

I haven't eaten since...

[ She feels the heavy static in her brain. ]

But you don't have to repay me or anything! I just wanted to make that child happy, sir!

... I've got it! What are you in the mood for? I'll fetch it right away!

[He's too serious about planning to use his power for UberEats.

But Yuuto can't be serious for long. He ends up smiling again as he shakes his head.]

Just because a kind person does a kind thing, doesn't mean they don't deserve kindness in return. We should keep that train of kindness going instead of ending it prematurely, right?

So whatever you want! I'll go find it for you.

[aupologizes]

Um... au...

[ She's really put on the spot here. ]

I like creampuffs. And other sweets.

Creampuffs! Sweets! Got it!

[Yuuto begins to push himself off of the blanket, but teleports rather than fully standing up. He's a bit overly reliant on that power, especially when he's emotional.]

Wait right here, okay? I'll be back! [And with that, Yuuto vanishes.

... Only to reappear a couple of minutes later. He's holding a pastry box from one of the upper bakeries and proudly sets it down for Hanyuu. He's also wobbly on his feet, with the belt tail swaying in order to maintain his balance.]

Creampuffs for a kami! Here you go~.

[aupologizes]

... Thank you.

[ She doesn't necessarily need to eat, but she heavily enjoys the creampuffs, so she finds herself munching on them. Hers now. ]

You're very welcome!

[Yuuto stays standing this time, entirely because he's trying to find his balance again.]

It seemed like a lot was happening over by the tree... Are you satisfied with the outcome, Hanyuu-san? [Not Oyashiro-sama this time.]

[aupologizes]

I am. We managed to save that child, so that's all that matters right now. Everything else... I think we can handle that another time.

[Kevin himself needed some time to recharge after using his Stigma and mentally take in everything that had happened. He had been making his rounds to see if everything was back to normal. Though he notices a certain horned woman sitting all by herself. He was offered a basket of food and he knew that he couldn't eat all of this by himself... So he'll be approaching Hanyuu.]

Ah, here's our star of the show! [With a smile, he holds up his basket.] Want some company? Or do you need some time to yourself?

[aupologizes]

You're over-exaggerating.

[ She says with a bit of light laughter before answering his question. ]

I'd actually really like company.

I gotta say if I wasn't running the priest schtick, I could become a lumberjack after all of that!

[With that said, he decides to sit down next to her with the basket. His next question wasn't full of his usual cheerfulness... Instead, it's more melancholy.]

Are you really satisfied with this ending? I'm sure if we worked a little harder, then we could've found another way to save her.

...I am, for now. She's okay, so I'm happy. The tree will eventually grow into something nice and strong. And as long as people remember her... I think it'll be okay.

Well, if you say so... I guess there was truly no other way. But what concerns the most is the fact that humans were behind this incident.

[aupologizes]

...yes.

And it is very likely that they will make a second attempt at it, so we must remain cautious.

But for now we celebrate. To a small victory.

That reminds me! Is that super form of yours what you really look like? You must have your reasons for holding back.

Ah, well... it is more of a form of power. My actual true form is not too much different from what I look like now.

[ She is honestly very short and petite in general. ]

As long as you aren't pushing yourself, then it's fine by me! I've shown off more about myself than I planned to as well.

[His Stigma wasn't something that he liked to use often, but that was an exception back then.]

How 'bout you save it for a moment where the two of us can go out somewhere? The nightlife scene doesn't seem all that bad 'round here.

[ She pauses, blinking several times, looking at him with a rather incredulous look on her face. ]

[Kevin laughs as he holds his hands up in a "I surrender!" gesture.]

You've been lookin' rather tired lately, so I figure that I can take you out somewhere nice. Just think of it as a date between pals or comrades-in-arms!
