A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[She may be a kami, but Yuuto is thinking of his like a scrapped knee. It's how he manages to deal with what is otherwise a lot of rising dread: Simplifying it.]

When did this happen? Are you hurt anywhere else?

[aupologizes]

[Yuuto pulls away again, but he's still visibly concerned.]

Ah, I've been staying at the bakery for the time being... but you really don't have to apologize. I'll be fine after a bit, probably.

Ah, the one that Mikale-san runs? No wonder you thought to meet there...

'Probably' doesn't cut it, though. Take it easy until it's 'definitely?' I'm sure that Mikale-san would be happy if you focused on resting.

I can't promise the 'definitely', but I can least rest for a short bit. Next month is June, isn't it? I have to be able to do things by then.

I do, but... a special day is coming up next month that is important to me.

On the third Sunday of June, there happens to be a festival happening in my hometown. It is called the Watanagashi.

It is a festival that was created in my name, after I passed away.

[ The watanagashi is basically the day she died, tbh. ]

It is when people gather their old futons, open them up and use the cotton as a medium for their sins to wash them ashore on the river.

Eh... A festival...

Would you like to have that festival here then? Watanagashi... I don't know about a river or futons, but... I'm sure we'd like to do something for you, Hanyuu-san.

[aupologizes]

...would that be alright? I mean, not many people know much about me as a kami, so I'm not sure if it'd be appropriate.

That's because you just got here, right? I'm sure that once they get to know you, everyone will love you! As a kami and otherwise!

[aupologizes]

You really think so? I... outside of my family, and my friends. People only saw me as a monster.

So to be seen as otherwise... I'd be happy to.

We just convinced that spirit that they weren't a monster, so... If I may be so bold, why not do the same for you here? I think people are already pretty enamored with you, actually. You looked really cool and brave from where I was standing.

[aupologizes]

Well, yes, but... I am a demon.

[ A kami, yes. But also a demon. ]

Although I'm not going to say no to not being called a monster.

[spacialeyes]

Then let's ask 'kaasan! We can do it together, if you'd like. And maybe... Maybe we can hold that festival!

[Yuuto lights up as he talks about it,] Wouldn't that be wonderful? If there are more spirits worried about sins, they'll have a way to relieve their guilt! No one else will have to end up that way... And we can have fun, too!

[aupologizes]

If it is alright with your mother, then I would like that.

[spacialeyes]

Yeah! She's the kami of love, so she'll-- [He recognizes he's about to make a pun

I guess we really do have those things in common, then. She is clearly more powerful than I am, though.

[ something something she is known as being the kami of love and matchmaking in their little sleepy town, after all ]

She is really amazing, isn't she?

[Yuuto smiles with pride, eager to brag about his mother. She's the only constant in his life, after all.]

But I was surprised. Normally her power can't work down here. You all must have really inspired the people in this part of town if she was able to come!

[He doesn't fully understand that Satou was also fueled with a mother's rage.]

[aupologizes]

She is. I would like to be a kami as wonderful as she is one day.

[ And it's okay, she believes Yuuto. Mostly because she was kind of out of it during Satou's... uh, rage portion. Which she would also totally get. ]

Me too. She's going to be mad at me for getting involved, but... I hope she's a little proud too.
