【WINDCHIMES EVENT】
damn windchimes
The Bonds That Tie Us
It’s the later end of June now and the summer heat is getting pretty stupid. Though Wind and Water spirits still bring cool breezes and rain showers, most of civilians hang around the pools or in their homes with wide open windows. There’s been a burst of curiosity regarding a new shrine that is being built for the Kami of Sin, especially with exciting talk of an upcoming festival. Whether intended or not, this eager gossip has led to the ghost stories falling in popularity. And now, the Fallen Stars are here to put those nasty Rumors to rest once and for all.
This event is split into a few parts and forward dated for convenience. It will end right before the Watanagashi Festival.
The Windchimes Rumor
The main Rumor for this event is the Windchimes Rumor. Though the scam operation will be successful in restoring the Love Kami's faith and discouraging the sale of more windchimes, the lingering effects of the curse will remain.
On the night of June 17th, a sudden meteor shower will be announced over the news. Everyone in the city gathers outside that night for the chance to see shooting stars and the civilians encourage their Fallen Star neighbors to participate. It's a peaceful night and nothing will seem out of the ordinary.
On the morning of June 18th, this will prove to have been misleading. Characters whose names were written thoughtfully on windchimes will have vanished overnight. Their beds are empty and there is no sign of a struggle. A quick investigation will find that the windchime hung in their honor has turned pitch black and somehow negates light rather than reflecting it. It's quite plain to see that the windchimes are involved in the disappearances.
Fortunately, there will be methods to find the missing characters. But the missing aren't helpless either.
Missing characters will wake up in a strange facility, lightly bound and sore from travel. They will be able to band together and not only escape the facility, but finally investigate the group that is causing Rumors.
In other words, there will be two groups for the event. Group A with be focused on action and fighting, while Group B will be focused on investigating a clue gathering.
This part of the event will not immediately go live, giving players some time to plan which group they want to be in. If you want to be in Group B but did not have your characters' name hung up, there will still be ways to get in Group B!

Alright, but if we're doing this we're going to at least try not to get horribly lost in the process. I really don't want to die here. Does anyone here know of any way we can mark the path we're taking, so we can double back later. The subtler the better, but really anything will work.
no subject
[His attention turns back to Ryoma.]
What's with your fancy shiny rocks in your beanie, Ryoma-nii? Ne? Can we use those?
[He is not conscious of what he said. Don't point it out?]
no subject
That's not the problem. There's two Spacetime Kami, so they're cancelling their concept out. We met the second one later when Theta tried to get us to murder him to prove ourselves, but that's a story for when we get out.
[ Rui's suggestion is a solid one, and perhaps he would have stated as much if Kokichi hadn't thrown him for a second. He's never called him that before. Hoshi-chan and without an honorific, sure, but he's never been so blatant about seeing him as a brother before. For now he leaves it be without addressing it. ]
Remember the glass wall that I broke? Turns out this is what it was made of. I think it's probably magic of some kind. We might be able to use them, but they glow and roll around so we'd have to be careful placing it so it doesn't get us lost worse.
no subject
[Just saying. She does look over the shards, though, and hums.]
So you're thinking some kind of tracking spell, like you'd use so you stop losing your dorm key?
no subject
How would the tracking spell work? Would we have to have a specific item to attach it to like your example of a dorm key? I would actually love to see more of your magic in action, if you don't mind.
But really, as long as whatever we do isn't noticeable, and will lead us back to this spot when we're done exploring, either option will work.
no subject
...I'm fine with either option. But I guess the tracking spell might be more inherently reliable since it won't roll around and I don't wanna lose the pretty rocks. We can put 'em in my pockets if you don't wanna carry 'em anymore...nii...
[He rubs one of his eyes, one of his hands inside one of his sleeves. He wasn't kidding, apparently.]
no subject
Its fine, it's not bothering me to carry them.
[ ... Besides, they were warm, and Kokichi didn't need any more of a reason to nod off on his feet. ]
I don't really care what we do, but we should hurry, whatever it is we pick. Who knows when Theta will come back...
no subject
[She says a few words in a language no one knows, just like with the other spells she did. The stones shimmer for a moment and then go back to normal.]
I'll be able to find them if we need to backtrack. Let's go... [points] That way? Unless you have a better plan.
no subject
[He knows it's not the time for this, but he really can't help his own curiosity either. He pulls out the paper he got from their murder room and showed Ryoma.]
Is this the same Theta that you met?
no subject
[Kokichi has been running on pure adrenaline up to this point, and it's finally catching up to him. He sniffs, trying to wake himself up...
But he's still in Kaito's jacket. So the scent that he gets, with his sleeve pressed to his nose, only makes him more sad than anything. Silently, while Rui asks his question, he begins looking for stairs. Not heading off too far where he can't be seen, but he isn't wasting time.]
no subject
Looks like her except younger. Her hair's longer now... So it's either her or a convincing lookalike.
[ Or some other magical explanation he couldn't fathom, but right now the important thing was to get moving, so with the question answered he began helping look for the way down. ]
no subject
Tau looks different on mine, too. They must be old file photos from this... I don't know, stalker agency. Very murdery stalker agency.
no subject
I wonder how she's died but is still here. Did they do something to bring her back? Is dying here not permanent? Or is it only not permanent while in the building? [He still doesn't understand this magic stuff yet.] Tau's page doesn't say she's dead, so not all of them have died, was Theta a test for whatever happened to her to bring her back?
[He's mostly talking to himself at this point.]
no subject
Eventually, however, he does end up finding the stairs.]
...Lessgo....
never fear! mu isn't actually here
It is not the same machine that Dazai has found, but a sister machine. The emergency engine. It looks much like a furnace, but rather than burning wood it is consuming piles of Starling.
And it's very clearly bad news. Wires and tubes extend from its base and give power to the whole building. It would be a darned shame if someone broke it. Or flicked the switch that is hidden behind a glass case on the wall.]
no subject
When they reach the machine he inspects it a bit, taking note of the glass case with the switch behind it. It seems easier to just shut it off, or to shut it off and then destroy it to mitigate any possible explosions, so he nudges Kokichi behind him a bit. ]
Keep back a second, guys.
[ He pulls the tennis ball from his pocket again, idly tossing it in the air once or twice before pitching it as hard as he could into the glass case to break it open for them. He didn't want anyone getting nicked by glass shards or the rebounding ball. ]
no subject
Should we put out the fire too? This whole machine creeps me out.
no subject
The fire should go out if the machine is off and it has no fuel. So actively putting it out seems like a waste of time.
[He looks at the machine for a moment.]
On the other hand...
[He could take apart that machine. He shakes his head.]
No...We should really just head back up, and leave.
[He looks at the machine once again. Unfortunately, it was one mystery that he didn't have time for.]
no subject
Let's press the switch first. We came down here for it after all.
[And without any input from anyone else, once he's got a fairly weighty amount of Starling in his pockets...he walks over and flicks the switch.]
no subject
And then the walls around them begin to melt like candle wax. The whole illusion of the facility, actually, begins to slow slump and fall apart like someone has poured water on a paper cut out.]
