Punch A Tree Log
A Twisted Rumor
It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.
"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."
For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.
The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.
But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.
Timeline of Events
This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.
Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!
Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[At first, Chron is responding only to her friend's voice. She's relieved, excited, and then-- Confused. Fauna looks different. Not necessarily in a bad way, but Chron has come to learn that sudden physical changes can have bad roots. Before she can address that, she notices the sack of potatoes that Fauna is carrying.
Wait. Scratch that.]
Dimitri? Is he okay? [She approaches, causing Dimitri to try to squirm free. He's not acting injured, in any case. Though he's about to die all over again as Chron asks, with sincere gratitude to Fauna:]
Fauna, were you babysitting him for me?
no subject
Oh, Fauna almost cracks up on the spot. She's never had cause to celebrate birthdays or Christmas before, but suddenly she understands how they both feel, just a beautiful, perfect gift, wrapped up for her with care.... The grin on her face is enough to remind people that she did, in fact, used to be a villain.]
Oh, more or less. He's been squirming like a little pain for a bit now, though. You wanna take him?
no subject
She laughs in Fauna's place.]
Oh no, that won't do! Yeah, I'll take him! My poor, sweet baby brother must have had such a hard time... Thank you for taking care of him, Fauna.
no subject
She just. Unceremoniously sets Dimitri down in front of her, and even dusts him off a bit.]
Any time.
... I'll let you two catch up for a bit, before I come back, okay?
no subject
But before Fauna can disappear, Chron grabs her arm and drags her closer. She pulls them both into a hug, one arm around Fauna and one around Dimitri.]
Thank you for saving me. Are you both okay?
no subject
what?
hug? affection? NOT being hated?
She can practically see Fauna's mental processes seize up and freeze in confusion as she tries to process this.]
I- I'm fine- Or, I will be, once I rest...
[Even she can tell 'I'm fine' won't fly in her current physical state.]
no subject
She pats their backs.]
That's right, rest. You should both come to the shrine for the night. You're gonna need a big sleep and someone's gotta catch me up!
no subject
Fauna can't figure out how she's supposed to handle this. This isn't... That's not... Is this allowed? Isn't- Shouldn't Chron hate her? Resent her?]
... Are- Are you sure that's a good idea...?
no subject
[Cue a flustered Dimitri grumbling "I'm borrowing it," from under Chron's hug. Don't misunderstand, Fauna!]
You okay with sharing mine? I've still got a bunkbed.
no subject
You... You vanished because of me, you know, are you- Are you sure you want to-?
no subject
[Chron tugs some favoritism on Fauna's side of the hug. She can feel her brother hiding against her and knows he's about to cry.]
If I was here, I'd have wanted to kick whatever's ass straight to hell. And look after my brother. You went did what I would have for me, and looked for me, right?
So I wasn't really gone.
[Yes, Dimitri is crying a lot over this. No, you may not call him out on it.]
no subject
[She's... tearing up herself... And trying really hard to pretend she's not crying.]
... Don't worry, though. We did. I cut the thing that did it right in half myself. A few times, actually.
no subject
[She gives the two a little squeeze, which is ruined by Dimitri mumbling; that's weird, oneechron.]
no subject
[She's turning red, trying to hide her tears and also her embarrassment, but. Normally, she tries to keep her identity secret, or at least not transform in front of others, so it shows just how frayed she is that she's just, offering to show it.]
... Are you sure you're okay, though? No side-effects or anything...?
no subject
[There's a childish excitement in Chron's voice. If the situation were less sentimental, she would offer to spar with Fauna too.
But she has too teary eyed people to deal with instead.]
Mm, I'm fine. Kind of weird just how fine I am, actually. I feel like I had a nice nap.
no subject
[She laughs, weakly, before leaning her head against Chron, trying to get a handle on her tears.]
no subject
[Gentle hair pats for the two as they cry. She feels guilty for seeing two strong and prideful people this way, but she isn't going to ignore this side of them either. Though she does feel Dimitri beginning to relax in a way that he can only do when he's exhausted.]
We should sit down, hm? You've both worked hard. You must be hungry.
no subject
... No bread. Please.
no subject
[Chron moves to release them from the hug and walk to the nearest blanket, but alas
Dimitri slumps forward in her arms. He's cried himself to sleep like a child. Probably didn't help that he used so much of his power on the barrier.
She hurried corrects herself and catches him.]
Oh wow. That's embarrassing, Dimitri...
no subject
[... dimitri....]
Do you need help carrying him?
no subject
[She gently moves to pick her brother bridal-style, something he would probably resist if was awake. They're very close in height, but Dimitri unconsciously curls towards his sister while he sleeps.
Chron sputters a laugh.]
Geez..! He's such a baby. I don't know how you put up with his shit, Fauna.
no subject
[She folds her arms.]
He kept talking about some kind of weird cat, earlier. A shro-something?
no subject
[Chron can't guess what her weird brother was talking about, but she does pause to think about it.]
Well, he does use my mom's surname. 'Kuroneko.' Maybe he was trying to be edgy?
no subject
[Says 'Fauna'.]
It was... something about a cat being alive or dead?
no subject
[Oh.
Chron sighs.]
Yeah, that's his edgy teenager bullshit.
