A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[Yuuto's happiness is being clearly broadcast with a big smile, bright eyes, and an antsy bounce to the way he stands. When Inaba lets go, he accidentally teleports a few yards away before quickly returning to her side. He'd though she might never free him!

His expression becomes sheepish. Inaba had rooted him in place, even when he doubted things would turn out okay on their own. That's pretty shameful and has him bowing to her.]

Thank you for putting up with me! Are you okay? Maybe I leave? [gotta find hanyuu!]

[ She sighs a little bit, her shoulders sagging. ]

I'm fine. I just needed to scruff you for a bit, so the only thing that's tired is my arm strength. But if you need to leave and go elsewhere, go do it.

[spacialeyes]

... When you say it like that, it sounds like I'm a kitten or something.

[Should he find that insulting?

Yuuto leans over to look at her arm, taking her too seriously and becoming concerned. Hanyuu can wait a few more minutes while he frets over Inaba.]

Does it hurt? You could go to the shrine and use the bath, if you need it?

You kind of look like one.

It doesn't hurt. I'm really used to it-- and what does the shrine baths have to do with anything?

The bath at 'kaasan's shrine is huuuge and super cozy! I hear that kind of bath it great for healing muscle aches!

[After some prideful bragging, Yuuto realizes what Inaba just said about him. The way that his belt tail tucks under him is not helping his case.]

Wait a second... I can't look like a cat. Cats are nice.

... but would she let anyone just use it?

[ But then she just raises a brow, gives him a skeptical look. ]

You are nice, though.

You aren't just anyone, Inaba-san. You're my friend. So yeah, she'd let my friends come over and borrow it.

[He seems happy to hear the praise, but waves his hand shyly to deny it.]

Ahahaha... Not really. I'm just an idiot. I probably don't know how to be mean, is all.

[dereban]

[ She gives him a rather baffled look.

He considers her a friend? Why? ]

Idiocy doesn't change being nice, though. You can be an idiot and be mean, too.

Eh... Really? I guess that goes to show that I'm not very bright, huh?

[He tries to change the subject. Yuuto isn't exactly proud to be called an idiot either. And since Inaba didn't argue, he won't argue about friendship either.]

But I do mean it. If you're sore, I can take you to the shrine. I feel better after that rest... ah. Th, thank you for that, by the way.

You're welcome. Although if you push yourself again, I'll just have to come find you again.

[ She's not afraid to do that twice. ]

But I'm really not sore right now. Kinda want to just... enjoy seeing this, first. Oh, and I guess I can also enjoy the free food. Probably take some home, too.

[But he's grateful to know that someone can help kami who eat too many candies.

Her comment reminds Yuuto that the party is in full swing. The petals, the rosy tint, the floral scent and sounds of laughter... His expression softens and he nods in understanding.]

Mm. It's beautiful, isn't it? I never thought I'd see something like this again. It's really amazing... So yeah! Enjoy it. You worked hard, Inaba-san.

I'll believe it when I see it.

[ She says it in a way where it's difficult to tell if she's actually being serious or not. ]

It is beautiful. Kind of makes me wish I could have seen it with the others. But this is fine too -- seeing it with new, fresh company.

Others..? [Ah. He fills in the gaps quickly.] Sorry. You must miss your friends, huh? I hope I didn't hurt you... calling you a friend like that. Is it okay?

I do miss them, but this isn't my first rodeo away from them, either.

[He smiles shyly, beginning to rock back and forth on his heels.]

But I'm glad. I don't usually meet people more than once. I wasn't sure if I was being presumptuous.

[Yuuto tries to smile, but worry is contagious to him.]

He does try to teleport anyway, only to be reminded that Inaba can trap him. Yuuto is someone who wears his emotions quite clearly and right now, every signal points to fear and distress.]
