Punch A Tree Log
A Twisted Rumor
It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.
"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."
For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.
The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.
But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.
Timeline of Events
This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Trust me, it's a struggle to try to understand the minds of children. But it's clear at least that they see a hero where you don't.
And, personally, I think that's something to build on. [Going back to his original analogy...] That's the first stitch in your proverbial coat.

I'm as far from a hero as you can get. Elemental Knight- [She looks down. She can't bring herself to say her name, still.] -she was the real hero. I fought her at every turn.
Isn't it too late? I fought against heroes in order to make others suffer. To try to break that shitty world. How could I try to be a hero now?

You'd be surprised. I'm a detective, so I'm quite familiar with the other side of the law, and there was a certain gentleman who might've had the exact same thoughts as you at one time.
He killed without remorse, he stole, he held others for ransom...his wanted list was quite the rap sheet. You'd be stunned if you saw it. The type of person to cause needless brutality because he wanted to break the shitty world he lived in, too.
Would you be surprised to hear he's considered a hero by most at home these days?
[He hums softly.] ...All because someone who he cared about said to 'do good'. Of course, it wasn't easy, but....anyone can make a recovery. I've seen it happen.
[he's heard that that mysterious man is very handsome and charming too but that's beside the point]

If there were to be a program for Falling Stars to help with incidents and help people...since you seem to be inclined towards that path, would you be interested?
...I used to be involved in such a program back home. And it'd allow us to take little steps together towards what you consider impossible.

[She looks at her clothes- She wears a ratty t-shirt like a dress, clearly many sizes too big for her, and her shoes are similarly ill-fitting.
What does she want? Usually, whenever she needs something, she just steals it...]

... I'll tell you one thing right now. The only person who has ever beaten me in a fight is Elemental Knight. And that was before all this.
I'm not very smart. I can't think things through, and I can't tell when I'm doing the wrong thing. All I'm good for is fighting and breaking things. But as long as you can make me sure that the fight is for something good, then I won't lose to anyone.

[It's weird. She feels... calmer now. More assured.
Like when she followed the goddess, in a way. That sense of... not belonging, but a sense of community. Of shared goals. The sense that she isn't alone.
