A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[Chron slams the pocket mirror closed and looks up.]

Hey, you're... [And she squints suspiciously at Kokichi.]

Just what the heck happened here? I thought that I was at home--- And who's "Bread Man?"

[violetlies]

Kokichi Oma, if you forgot. [He supplies, shrugging lightly.]

Weeeeeeeeellll. We had a big picnic! But things kinda went haywire, there were a few fights...there was some angry goop. But it kinda latched onto some bread, it turned into a big ol' monster, but it was actually a real softie.

So I attached it to my soul. And now I'm Bread Man, defender of the people.

[He strikes a mock-sentai pose.]

...Or, at least, according to the kids. Nee-hee-hee.

[Was that supposed to be an explanation?? Chron opens her mouth to shout and demand a proper answer, but closes it slowly instead. Looking around, she finally becomes aware of their surroundings. Things begin to click in place.]

It was a Rumor, wasn't it..?

[She looks back at Kokichi.] Are you all okay?

[violetlies]

[He exits pose mode. Kokichi shrugs, but then nods.]

Yeah. It was. I liked my action-y explanation better, buuuut. That's the short of it. A rumor happened. You weren't around. Now you are.

[He hums, rolling his shoulders.] I don't think there's any casualties. Everything was either defeated or befriended by the Fallen Stars. Unless there's something I don't know about, it all seems okay.

I see...

[Chron averts her gaze. She sort of gave Kokichi a hard time when they first met, but now he's part of an effort that effectively rescued her... and honestly, that pisses her off! If it weren't the love kami's calming magic, Chron might have given in to her violent nature.

Instead she looks shy.]

Thanks for helping, I guess. Rumors can be a lot of trouble and you all didn't have to do anything.

[violetlies]

Nah, we didn't. But hey. We couldn't just let innocent people remain in trouble. Plus, I gained a lot during this. I'm not complaining about any of it.

[He snickers softly.]

You don't have to be bashful about it. It's no big deal. And I like getting into the middle of things, anyway.

Besides. I thought we could be friends, anyway.

[omichron]

Friends--

[Chron visibly flushes and accidentally makes eye contact, which only makes her embarrassed state that much worse.]

Wasn't I kind of an asshole when we first met? Why would you wanna be friends?!

[violetlies]

You'd be surprised how many of my friendships started because I was an asshole to someone else or they were an asshole to me.

And I'd like to be friends because you seem like an interesting person to be around. Anyone who doesn't make me bored is worth my time.

I can also tell you're a good person. So if something ever happens again, we can work together to stop it. Or at least try.

[omichron]

Y, you're assuming an awful lot there! I'm not good, a-and nothing is going to happen again, or anything!

[She grumbles into the last bit,] But fine. If you're going to be insistent... I don't mind being friend, Kokichi.
