A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[Yuuto looks down at his feet, where he's left splotches of red blood. At least the magic has dissipated from his body and isn't actively hurting him anymore, but it comes with the price of negating his normal abilities too. Yuuto wobbles like a bug missing an antenna and winces at her words.]

I can't stop yet. I can still help. I'm still standing, after all.

Nuh-uh, you're getting some rest. Let the others handle it.

B-But...

[Powerless, Yuuto is so weak that he can't even stand. He crumbles to his knees, silently horrified by how pathetic he is without his power. And now he's distracting Inaba too.]

They'll save it, won't they? There was a meaning to all of this? I wasn't just stupid... [He was useful, he hopes. Otherwise, his current physical state is a pointless burden.]

They sure as hell am gonna try. But that's what people from other worlds are like. Never giving up and all that.

Right... And people who don't know the rules of this world might actually be able to change them. Maybe that's why you were all brought here.

That's how it always is -- but, well. I wouldn't say that's necessarily the reason. But who knows the answer to that right now.

I guess... [Yuuto blinks and lifts his head, recognizing the shift in spirit magic caused by Echidna. His tired tone shifts to something more focused as he tries to pull away from Inaba.]

Something's wrong. Let me go, please.

[dereban]

No.

[ It's an immediate response, and one that causes her to tighten her grip on him. ]

Even if something is happening there, you are in absolutely no fucking condition to deal with it right now. Sometimes you have to understand when to pull back. If there's an issue... we have to trust that the others will find it.

[spacialeyes]

[Why did she have to drag 'trust' into this? Yuuto tries to tug away again. He's also tried to teleport a few times, but obviously he can't.]

Please... [She's right. Without his power especially, Yuuto is aware of how hideously weak he is. If something happened right now then he'd have no way to keep them safe.] I'm just watching. What's the point of trying if I can only watch in the end?!

Don't be fucking stupid! You've already done enough. If you burn yourself out even more, do you really think anyone's going to be happy with that?! Watching means that you're alive, moron! It means that you are able to see the 'happy ending' that they can come up with!!

[Except, well. Inaba... and his family... Hanyuu, Velda... So Yuuto does pull his temper back in and mend his statement.]
