A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

[... Fine. Can't run away. Fauna has to protect him, then.

She hates having to protect people.]

We'll figure that out later. For now, we have to fight.

You stay back and use that stick of yours to protect Tau.

[She's not letting Chron come back to a dead family.]

[She says this while remaining completely unarmed.]

Even more than that. I can help.

[And she was going to. She wouldn't let the tree spirit suffer like that forever.]

Are you so stupid that you don't know how a sword works?

[Dimitri can feel his anger rising, but is calmed by Tau's interjection. He nods slowly, knowing very well that his sister is capable.]

We can fight. What's more, that spirit... If it's truly motivated by love, then it can still be saved.

[He turns to Tau;] If I create a space for you, can you show it that daydream again? Of being happy with everyone?

[Fauna wants to retort, to bite back, to do anything other than stand and talk. But the important thing is moving forward.]

What part of this makes you think it can be saved? And I'm not letting you two get into danger.

[veileddreamer]

[Tau nods.]

I can, yes.

[To Fauna she says.]

They can be saved. We have to believe that. We must try. They're suffering too. Should we just ignore that because their struggle is not as palletable to us?

[melancholie]

[Dimitri reaches out to ruffle Tau's hair;] Do it. I believe in you.

[To Fauna, Dimitri is much less pleasant. He pulls his hand away from Tau and glares.]



Because that's the world I want! I'm sick and tired of watching the world fall apart while I do nothing! Chron knew about Rumors, she knew that getting mixed up with all of you might make her disappear, and I told her again and again to leave you the hell alone, but she kept! INSISTING! That she had nothing to fear! Chron and Mikale-san and every person in this damn city that disappeared did because they wanted to HELP YOU and make this world better! Like hell I'm going to let their love for all of you disappear too!

Now sit down and watch the rest of us make a miracle, dammit!

[nightwild]

[Fauna reaches forward and grabs Dimitri by the collar. Her mask conceals her face, but her voice is clear. Fury, mixed with guilt.]

That's my point! What the hell am I going to do if she comes back and finds that her siblings have died while I was around?!

Sit down and keep yourselves safe, so that you can be there for her when she comes back!!

[veileddreamer]

[Tau was just going to stay quiet for now. The arguing had her so tense she was shaking, and the subject of it had her crying. She couldn't handle being there between them, so she was just going to leave and wander off towards the edge of the barrier, to get ready to fight.]

[Fauna doesn't know what she's talking about...Does she? She might. She might, and that scares Tau. But regardless, now isn't the time for focusing on that. She would push it aside for now, and focus on the tree spirit, and her missing family.]

[melancholie]

[Dimitri is still caught up in his exploding anger for a moment longer, continuing to yell even as Fauna has him by the collar;] We aren't weak! Huh--

[Oh shit. He gasps when he sees his sister walking off. Good at running like he is, Dimitri vanishes from Fauna's grasp and reappears behind Tau. Shit, shit, shit-- Why is he like this?! He moves to apologize, but something tells him that it's too late for that... His temper flares again as he looks over his shoulder at Fauna.]

Spit in Chron's face one more time and I'll send you into orbit, Fauna!

Tau, I'm going to back up Yuuto. We'll be watching over you!

[veileddreamer]

[Tau was focusing on pushing her thoughts and feelings about what Fauna had been saying aside, that she almost missed what Dimitri said.]
