A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

It'll be hard with the locals thinking we caused all this, though. I've sort of just been hiding.

Yeah...

That is understandable...

[She hesitates speaking up, and revealing herself as a native of Starsand. But eventually decides not saying anything would be more likely to get her in trouble later.]

...But... Not all of us locals believe that, though...It is important to focus on those of us who have not thought the worst of you all...Or those who have not made up their minds...So there is still hope that this can all work out?

You think so? That sounds nice. And if all that stuff about how the rumours work is true, then I guess there's nothing to do but start better rumours to counter them! I mean, it's way harder to do than it sounds, especially when nobody likes you, but theoretically it's possible.

...I do suppose that could work...But I do think we should be careful spreading rumors at all...

At least the kind like what has happened to the tree...We could definitely work on trying to get locals to view you all more positively...

Maybe if Fallen Stars...loudly and publically...do positive things around the city? Then the locals would have to acknowledge...that you are not a problem?

I'll keep it in mind. I guess the first thing to do is try and save the people inside the tree, hopefully without turning it into a monster or something.

Hopefully...We will be able to save everyone...Including the tree spirit...

And then we can focus on...keeping this from happening again...

I hope the party's enough, but if the spirit is stealing people off the street just to be remembered, I don't know about those kinds.

The spirit is...being forced to steal those people though...If I understand correctly...I feel bad for them...

Because that's how the rumour works, huh? It's kind of confusing...

[Tau nods. And is quiet for a minute.]

Hopefully...fulfilling their wish will...get rid of what the rumor is connected to...And everything will just... [She makes a vague gesture with her hands.] back to normal...

If it works, it works, right? And if it doesn't, we're prepared... at least I hope we're prepared. I haven't actually fought very much before.

[Tau hesitated, trying to decide whether to say anything about her own use tomorrow.]

Luckily...It does seem like many of the people here are...used to fighting...

[A bit more confident, she adds.]

If you do not feel safe if it becomes a fight...then retreat...It is best to play it safe...

I guess you're right. I am pretty good at running away... or I guess just kind of passable, but it comes out to okay.

That is good...We all have different strengths...That lend themselves to what we're trying to...accomplish...So...since you are helping out here...there is no real need to push yourself...

I mean, maybe, but also shouldn't we all be pushing ourselves? That's where innovation comes from, right?
