A Twisted Rumor

It's the day after the Fallen Star Meeting regarding the recent rumor. As morning brightens the city's night, stories are making their way from the bottom level to the top.

"The cherry blossom tree isn't going to hurt us, is it? It looks so scary."

For those who have learned the truth about rumors, this may especially distressing to hear. There's no time to wait: If anything is going to be done to save the tree's spirit, it must be done now.

The current plan is to address the tree spirit's wish to be remembered and acknowledged by holding a picnic by the lonely cherry blossom tree. Fallen Stars hope to reenact the lively Reblooming parties that had been happening on the upper levels all month. This tree, though the origin of that tradition, exists at the bottom level of Starsand City: Where spirits and kami are still feared. The hope is that this party will soothe the raging spirit and bring it peace... and, ideally, bring back all of the people who have recently gone missing.

But the meeting also ended on a note of caution. If the spirit will not peacefully give up the missing people, then more drastic measures may need to be taken. And... Spoiler alert, but this log is titled tree FIGHT.

Timeline of Events

This log will operate a bit different from normal! It's also an experiment, so if it doesn't work then apologies in advanced! In order to maintain an easy-to-follow timeline of events, there will be a top-level for each stage of the encounter. As the encounter progresses, new top-levels will be added to reflect each stage of the Rumor.

Character top-levels are still welcome, but please try to use the top-levels for time sensitive threads. Threadjacking is welcomed & encouraged, though please be respectful of one another. And of course, make use of the feedback section!

Backtagging is also still welcome. Event stages will be staggered over the course of the next week & past threads still have time to make an impact. Please don't feel rushed!

They can be saved. We have to believe that. We must try. They're suffering too. Should we just ignore that because their struggle is not as palletable to us?

[A beat and then.]

Oh, if we're considering purification--having someone bless a water gun has worked on curses before.

[ She is 100% serious. ]

[Dimitri reaches out to ruffle Tau's hair;] Do it. I believe in you.

[To Fauna, Dimitri is much less pleasant. He pulls his hand away from Tau and glares.]



Because that's the world I want! I'm sick and tired of watching the world fall apart while I do nothing! Chron knew about Rumors, she knew that getting mixed up with all of you might make her disappear, and I told her again and again to leave you the hell alone, but she kept! INSISTING! That she had nothing to fear! Chron and Mikale-san and every person in this damn city that disappeared did because they wanted to HELP YOU and make this world better! Like hell I'm going to let their love for all of you disappear too!

Now sit down and watch the rest of us make a miracle, dammit!

If we go that route, I'd prefer something a little bigger - maybe a pressure washer. Plus, I'm not sure anyone here can make holy water. Good thought, though - something to remember for next time.

That's my point! What the hell am I going to do if she comes back and finds that her siblings have died while I was around?!

Sit down and keep yourselves safe, so that you can be there for her when she comes back!!

[Fauna, in her weird, fox-onmyoji armor, reaches into her sleeves, and pulls out several ofuda.]

Will these be good enough for that?

I mmmmay have a gun on my person that I carry for emergencies.

[ It's in her bag and it's a super soaker. ]

Although we do have a kami or two here, maybe just having their blessing would do something? Not sure.

[There's a cheerful laugh and a grin from him! Her mannerisms reminded him of Arin which was quite refreshing in his book.]

I can always make a spicy edition if that's what people are looking for. I actually don't mind hot food.

[Considering what Soma keeps in his pockets, he can't even say anything about that being weird.] It would depend on the kami and their domains. They'd have to be pretty powerful for what I have in mind - powerful enough to completely cleanse the spirit in one go.

[Fortunately Madoka already has that going, but that's another thread so...]

Still, it can't hurt to try. If nothing else, it should help with damage control.

Exploding wouldn't be ideal, at least for the spirit we're trying to save here. The idea is to keep it from dissipating.

[The tree roots are easy enough to destroy and restrain, but they don't stop growing. For every root that Hanyuu cuts, two new ones rise in its place. For every attempt Tau and Kevin make to stop a singular root, the more new lines splinter off and pound at the barrier. Even when tied down, they shake their way free.]

"I wanted... to be seen... one last time..."

[Still attached to the tree trunk, the spirit extends her arms and wails in agony for every time that her roots are damaged.]

"Together... I wished to be together, I wished to gather them all here with your help. But not like this!"

[Tau was just going to stay quiet for now. The arguing had her so tense she was shaking, and the subject of it had her crying. She couldn't handle being there between them, so she was just going to leave and wander off towards the edge of the barrier, to get ready to fight.]

[Fauna doesn't know what she's talking about...Does she? She might. She might, and that scares Tau. But regardless, now isn't the time for focusing on that. She would push it aside for now, and focus on the tree spirit, and her missing family.]

He moves to apologize, but something tells him that it's too late for that... His temper flares again as he looks over his shoulder at Fauna.]
