【EVENT】 New Year's Wishful Dreaming
.
Wishful Dreaming Event
On the Eve of the New Year, the city of Starsand is surprisingly quiet. For a place so eager to throw parties, you might think that the streets would be full of life. But instead, Starsand’s streets are quiet and it’s citizens shutting down shops early. In this city, the last night of the year is contemplative and quiet. Citizens might make their last shrine visits, but it’s uncommon to see them out past 11.
They say that it’s important to fall asleep before the New Year, because you want to treasure your first dream of the New Year. Supposedly it’s lucky and prophetic. If you write it down and remember it, that dream can even guide you to your greatest desire. And rumors are always good ideas in Starsand.
Sleep comes easy on this night. Characters will find themselves getting drowsy by 4am at the latest. When they do fall asleep, they fall into a deep and elaborate dream.

Then she shakes her head.]
I'm not sure. It just seems weird. You can go anywhere that you want in a dream and yet you've chosen this... Then again, I suppose my Rumor wasn't merely about granting a wish.

When you've been stuck in some random-ass city an' have to deal with a bunch of bleedin' hearts playing house like we don't have lives away from them, yes, this is what I'd pick.
Who the hell're you to criticize what I want?
no subject
... I am the Rumor of the New Years Dreams. I risked my life for a chance to see something exciting an new, but this is what I get in return?
What a stupid gamble I've made.
But I suppose that I'm no stranger to the idea of disliking that city.

[ She lets that explanation, and that reaction simmer within her. The candy's starting to fade out, and worse off, the silhouette-- Karin's big sis, disappears completely.
Despite the transgressions that came earlier in the night, she's not sure there's enough fury in her eyes to express how she's doing. ]
So what you're sayin' is.
You're trespassing on my turf, insulting me to my face, and expectin' me to not bash your goddamn face in?
no subject
[The girl doesn't even flinch. She watches Karin and the dream change with her own expression set in place.]
It's better than... nothing. That's what I think. After so long of nothing, even this is an acceptable first and final acknowledgment. So sure. Come at me.
no subject
This ain't real, huh.
Karin steps onto the counter and then propels herself forward, smashing through the displays as she goes. Quick, as she usually is, as she drops and just about swings for the fences with her bokken, right at the girl's face. ]
no subject
But she doesn't move, nor does she seem to react. Black and glittery goo drips down the bokken.]
Is this how you solve all of your problems?
no subject
[ The bokken falls to the floor, and she puts up a fighting stance. Whatever that substance is, she sure as hell doesn't want it on her, but she has to be ready. Just in case. ]
Only the ones that come lookin' for trouble. "Rumor" or not. I ain't interested in playin' around.
no subject
[She leans over to grab the bokken for herself, but can't. Without Karin's permission, the Rumor's hands cannot hold anything in the dream.]
Tell me. Is this place precious to you? Is returning to this world-- the real version of it,-- really that important to you?
no subject
Then, she asks. ]
More than anything in your world.
no subject
And as it should happen, the deal that I made with the Wishmaker has taught me how to free you Fallen Stars. Convenient, isn't it?
no subject
Oh yeah?
[ There's a lot of things that could mean, especially when it comes to that "Wishmaker". Wishes were already messy business, and it sounded like that was a little out of scope for her. ]
How'd it figure that out?
no subject
I've learned a lot from that.
The polite thing, then, would be to keep what secrets I've learned to myself... But that's also boring. I'd rather be rude, if it's entertaining.
no subject
But, I'm thinkin'. Those employers you're talkin' about. Members of a "Facility" in town?
no subject
Perhaps we got off on the wrong foot… and in some ways, maybe we will never agree and get along. But I do wonder if we would both find it amusing if their attempt to use me to further their plans backfired a bit.
no subject
[ A little rude, but this other girl's been too? ]
I ain't sayin' I wouldn't laugh. They sounded shady t'me, but they're also my best lead outta this place.
no subject
The Facility created the power that could draw Fallen Stars into this world, but they had to borrow the power to trap them here. Realizing that they could not borrow that power forever, they have made a replacement.
I don’t know if that bodes well for your lot.
no subject
Just means they might be able t'pull in more Fallen Stars t'waste away here. Get the feelin' they wouldn't swap us out either.

[ She's learning a lot about robots tonight.
...hm. Putting a pin in that. ]
Anyway. Take it the best way to stick it to 'em and get is back home's to bust up that machine?
no subject
They’ll first eliminate the source of their borrowed power, but… Hm. I promised not to say more about that. To a Fallen Star, mind you. I don’t care for promises with the Facility.
But he’s, I understand their machine to have attracted many spirits. Now it dreams.
no subject
[ A couple things are clicking into place here. Stuff that she can't really ask anyone else about.
Gonna have to keep her eyes open again. ]
Well, one way or another, I'm gonna get what I need. Either restorin' the source's power or figurin' out how to use it myself.
no subject
Of course, none of that means anything unless you can get to their machine.
no subject
So. Don't suppose they let you in on that little secret.
no subject
I don’t recall that information, no. You would need outside help for that.
