Wishful Dreaming Event

On the Eve of the New Year, the city of Starsand is surprisingly quiet. For a place so eager to throw parties, you might think that the streets would be full of life. But instead, Starsand’s streets are quiet and it’s citizens shutting down shops early. In this city, the last night of the year is contemplative and quiet. Citizens might make their last shrine visits, but it’s uncommon to see them out past 11.

They say that it’s important to fall asleep before the New Year, because you want to treasure your first dream of the New Year. Supposedly it’s lucky and prophetic. If you write it down and remember it, that dream can even guide you to your greatest desire. And rumors are always good ideas in Starsand.

Sleep comes easy on this night. Characters will find themselves getting drowsy by 4am at the latest. When they do fall asleep, they fall into a deep and elaborate dream.

OOC NOTES

The first dream of the New Year will show characters their wishes come true. They will get to enjoy the life they long for. But strangely, they may find other Fallen Stars wandering into their dreams. These encounters may shake them out of their dreamlike state and make them aware that the dream is just that: A dream. If the dreamer denies their dream or has doubts, then the dreamscape will fall apart into a nightmare before both dreamer and visitor wake up.

It is possible to have multiple dreams: Characters must wake between dreams, even if just briefly, then fall back asleep in order to change their dream. There can be multiple visitors before the dream ends for good.

On the morning of January 1st, all characters who had a dream will find a prismatic crystal clenched in the palm of their hands. The crystal will reflect the contents of their dream, so long as they hold the same wish. If they change wishes or lose faith, then the crystal will turn black and melt into Rumor goo.

NPC characters may reply to dreams with clues. Please indicate which characters you want to receive clues by putting a “*” in their toplevel title. You may request clues for up to 3 characters. Thank you for your help!

ryoko's dream*

[loveedition]

[ The scene is a school-- those . A large banner hangs from the roof, offering congratulations for the graduating class. It looks to be similar to the high school within Starsand City, and there's a good chance some of the underclassmen are recognizable if you've spent any time there.

The sun is bright and all around are students chatting, holding their diploma and offering up congrats. Some hugging and crying, some shaking hands as a farewell as the cherry blossoms bloom around them. A melancholy feeling fills the air, bittersweet in knowing that this may be the last time they see each other.

Folks are still buzzing about the assembly given by the school's top student, a tall young man with red hair and glasses. Right now, he's speaking with someone familiar.

Ryoko Asakura stands there nervously, laughing in a way that contrasts with the other's dour expression. Next to her, naturally, is Taiga Aisaka-- who quickly flees the scene, deciding to go meet with some of her friends with plans to meet back with Ryoko later. The young man decides to take his leave as well, giving Ryoko a wave goodbye. There's a few people that she speaks to-- a teacher that lightly pats her head. A pair of underclassman twins, one more friendlier to Ryoko than the other, who seems to be far more reticent to speak to her, despite the pair of sunglasses resting on his forehead. A pink-haired girl, who may be familiar to some here, that immediately attaches herself onto Ryoko, crying. Maybe less familiar is the girl with her, who instead regards Ryoko with a scowl, but eventually softens into a smirk and a nod. It seems like, for the time being, she's finally alone. Except, she doesn't stick around.

Ryoko's decided that there's one last place she has to go. ]

Well... they're the last ones I have to say goodbye to. Guess I'd better hurry.

[stavros]

[Kokoro pauses. She's seen enough of these to see what's going on now, but she approaches with a quiet nod.]

Having your yearbook signed, are you?

[loveedition]

Oh, Kokoro-san! Yep. I wanted to make sure I reached out to everyone before it was time to head home.

...It feels kind of surreal, doesn't it?

[stavros]

Perhaps. But also exceedingly ordinary... which is strange in itself, all things considered.

[loveedition]

Well... mostly ordinary. It's hard to call my friends ordinary, in the first place.

[ Here, walk with her, talk with her! ]

[stavros]

I know the feeling.

[Kokoro follows along, looking around for anything out of place.]

Even the closest person to my own home didn't have the aliens or pirate cats or... actually, I didn't ask him about the dragons, he might have those.

[loveedition]

That's a shame, though. I really wish I would've been able to see the pirate cats. That sounds really cute.

[spacialeyes]

[At first, Yuuto is caught up watching some of the dream's other faces; His sisters, some of their schoolmates he's seen hundreds of times, and the families that have come for the graduation. It's surreally peaceful and yet he can't feel comfortable getting involved. Yuuto can't even approach the images of his family, since he knows that he's forever the reason why Chron and Tau never had a normal school life.

But he feels less guilty about approaching Ryoko. Yuuto is still caught in a dream-like daze and not letting his mind linger on anything upsetting, such as how he got sent to
a new time and space. Instead, he grins and waves as he walks over; Acting like he belongs here. Thought, modifying his language just in case this is another world and they aren't friends here;]

Asakura-saaaan! Congratulations~!

[loveedition]

[ The excitable greeting could only come from one of two three people, and the other two pretty much exclusively call her Ryoko. Which means, this one must be...! ]

Yumeno-kun! Thank you so much, congrats to you too! We actually did it!

[ Because in her dream world, he does belong here. ]

[His mask nearly falls.

Yumeno-kun. Not Yuuto?

And he's supposed to be graduating?

His heart sinks. He isn't the Yuuto she thinks that she's talking to then.]

[... Well! He has experience with smiling anyway.]

Right~! We did it!

Are you going to do anything to celebrate tonight?

[loveedition]

Oh, we haven't decided yet. I was actually heading up to speak to the rest of the Literature Club to ask about it. You can come with, of course. Nagato-san would be sad if we didn't invite you.

[ Let's start heading that way! ]

[spacialeyes]

Nagato-san is coming?

[Isn't she not in Starsand..?

Well, this is a different world. He follows along.]

Who else is coming..?

[loveedition]

[ Ryoko folds her arms and tilts her head, thinking on it. ]

Mmm... Kakyoin-kun said he'd try to make it, but I know he wanted to spend time with his boyfriend. If Nagato-san's coming, she'll bring Kyon-kun with. Suzumiya-san said that she's already here, which is surprising since she's graduating at her school today... oh, and Taiga, of course.

We still haven't decided where we're going to meet up afterwards, though. We can't use the club room, since Nagato-san has to return the keys.

[ Ushio's here, and although she's in a different uniform than Ryoko is, she's just as excitable as ever. She knows this is a dream and that it isn't hers, but that's fine. ]

Are ya gonna introduce me ta yer friends?

[loveedition]

Kofune-san! Thanks for coming!

[ She's probably told her over and over again to just call her Ushio, but it's so informal!

She nods excitedly. ] Of course! Some of them just left, but we can still catch the Literature Club. I was headed there right now.

[shellrender]

[ Ushio pouts. ]

... It's Ushio, ya know.

[ The name Kofune didn't belong to her--not really, anyway. ]

But if we can catch 'em, I should go say hi!

[loveedition]

Right, right. Sorry about that.

Come on, they're up this way.

[ It actually doesn't take them that long to make it to the room-- probably due to how the dream world works. ]

I hope none of them left.

I hope so, too! I betcha ya have a lotta good friends, Ryoko.

[loveedition]

I do. Mm, it's so weird. It feels like I haven't seen them in a while... but, it also feels like after today, I won't get to see them for a long, long time.

Is that how graduation's supposed to feel?

[fallenwishingstar]

[Even in the sunshine, where everyone's uniforms are brilliantly lit by warmth, the form of this girl is strangely shadowed. Her red eyes stand out, glowing rather than reflecting sunshine. In some ways, she seems completely detached from her surroundings.

And yet, she watches Ryoko with a light glare.]

... You could have anything in the world and you choose this? Why? Is graduating school really that exciting?

[loveedition]

[ Ryoko pauses, staring at the newcomer. Ryoko doesn't recognize her from this school at all, and something about her was... immediately off. How she didn't blend in. ]

Wh-what're you talking about? Of course it is. It's the start of the rest of my life, you know.

[fallenwishingstar]

Is that really it? If you're going off to a new start, then did you need to bring so many people from your past here?

[loveedition]

--[ For some reason, her chest aches. This question... ]

...Because, I want to say goodbye to them.

After I graduate, I'm leaving. I'm studying abroad.

... Why?

This place seems happy. You've gone through the trouble of recreating the people that you missed and weaving them into a comfortable dream. Why would you leave it by choice? Are you just a waste of my energy?
