Wishful Dreaming Event

On the Eve of the New Year, the city of Starsand is surprisingly quiet. For a place so eager to throw parties, you might think that the streets would be full of life. But instead, Starsand’s streets are quiet and it’s citizens shutting down shops early. In this city, the last night of the year is contemplative and quiet. Citizens might make their last shrine visits, but it’s uncommon to see them out past 11.

They say that it’s important to fall asleep before the New Year, because you want to treasure your first dream of the New Year. Supposedly it’s lucky and prophetic. If you write it down and remember it, that dream can even guide you to your greatest desire. And rumors are always good ideas in Starsand.

Sleep comes easy on this night. Characters will find themselves getting drowsy by 4am at the latest. When they do fall asleep, they fall into a deep and elaborate dream.

OOC NOTES

The first dream of the New Year will show characters their wishes come true. They will get to enjoy the life they long for. But strangely, they may find other Fallen Stars wandering into their dreams. These encounters may shake them out of their dreamlike state and make them aware that the dream is just that: A dream. If the dreamer denies their dream or has doubts, then the dreamscape will fall apart into a nightmare before both dreamer and visitor wake up.

It is possible to have multiple dreams: Characters must wake between dreams, even if just briefly, then fall back asleep in order to change their dream. There can be multiple visitors before the dream ends for good.

On the morning of January 1st, all characters who had a dream will find a prismatic crystal clenched in the palm of their hands. The crystal will reflect the contents of their dream, so long as they hold the same wish. If they change wishes or lose faith, then the crystal will turn black and melt into Rumor goo.

NPC characters may reply to dreams with clues. Please indicate which characters you want to receive clues by putting a “*” in their toplevel title. You may request clues for up to 3 characters. Thank you for your help!

... I mean, it's possible some people just got dropped off in the wrong place. Which, um. Isn't great.

Of course that leaves how we correct it now that we're split amongst who knows how many worlds, but...

I see... Something's wrong. You have my apologies. No one should be trapped or lost somewhere they can't return home. Not when that was what we fought for so long.

Guess it's just one more thing to figure out.

IF we don't know where to start, maybe just doing what's normal for here's a good norm?

[Kokoro begins heading through the halls to class with a deep sigh.]

You may be right, only until we find a way out. But at that point, it only feels like we're back in Starsand, does it not?

I... Kinda, yeah. But at least this place is a more familiar start point, right?

So we just gotta watch for something out of place. And things that are in place but problematic. And things that are out of place but not normally present, like the vampire issue you mentioned.

[All this and Rita hasn't considered the dream possibility yet, apparently.]

[stavros]

Right.

[She files into class, where the other students are acting like nothing is wrong, and takes a seat in the lecture hall.]

Of course, there is... a lot here. Perhaps ask me if you find anything odd?

... I feel like this is going to take a few hours. I, um, don't know what qualifies as normal for a typical school, let alone St. Gradius.

[stavros]

[As if to emphasize this, a girl who looks like she's got metal joints and artificial skin walks by. Kokoro waves at the robot like nothing's wrong.]

You have a point, and my apologies. I'll try and ask Operetta after class. If she doesn't know, then we have a problem.

Yeah, never been to a normal high school before.

[Rita doesn't quite realize Nam Cobanda Isle's supposed to resemble one.]

What would you call an abnormal one, then? Besides this one.

A half-improvised home study program created by teachers who weren't expecting a six-year-old to be capable of handling Advanced Formulae, even though Witcher had it at eight so you'd think "someone even younger than that might pop up" would be a thing.

And then just. Self study when the teachers became useless, which was pretty fast.

[stavros]

I feel this might explain a lot. You might get along with a few of our number. We've got some very young students here who do better than a lot of the rest of us...

... You know, actually, that could work. Maybe.

But yeah. Normalcy was never really a thing for me.

[stavros]

I see. ...Perhaps after class, then. I know not.

It's worth a try,at least. That's really all we can do.

Oh right, should I be worried about the aliens or vampire thing?

[stavros]

I don't think so, but strange things happen. We did defeat Dark Force, though, so the Bacterians should be quiet for some time, I would hope. Tita excluded, of course. She's a student here.

Well, yay for less combat!

Unless Yuri or someone shows up. Then something will follow him that will lead to a lot of combat.

Should I be training for how you fight, just in case, or...?

[stavros]

Wait, do you mean piloting? Because you've seen how I fight without a Ride Viper, and that's just normal.

[blastiaobsessieanonymous]

... Well, I mean, it's awesome and all, but yeah, piloting.

I don't like the idea of just being, you know, the civilian others have to protect, if I can avoid it.

[stavros]

...Sure. If we can, of course I'll teach you. Surely no one'd object. They did keep Tita.
