Wishful Dreaming Event

On the Eve of the New Year, the city of Starsand is surprisingly quiet. For a place so eager to throw parties, you might think that the streets would be full of life. But instead, Starsand’s streets are quiet and it’s citizens shutting down shops early. In this city, the last night of the year is contemplative and quiet. Citizens might make their last shrine visits, but it’s uncommon to see them out past 11.

They say that it’s important to fall asleep before the New Year, because you want to treasure your first dream of the New Year. Supposedly it’s lucky and prophetic. If you write it down and remember it, that dream can even guide you to your greatest desire. And rumors are always good ideas in Starsand.

Sleep comes easy on this night. Characters will find themselves getting drowsy by 4am at the latest. When they do fall asleep, they fall into a deep and elaborate dream.

OOC NOTES

The first dream of the New Year will show characters their wishes come true. They will get to enjoy the life they long for. But strangely, they may find other Fallen Stars wandering into their dreams. These encounters may shake them out of their dreamlike state and make them aware that the dream is just that: A dream. If the dreamer denies their dream or has doubts, then the dreamscape will fall apart into a nightmare before both dreamer and visitor wake up.

It is possible to have multiple dreams: Characters must wake between dreams, even if just briefly, then fall back asleep in order to change their dream. There can be multiple visitors before the dream ends for good.

On the morning of January 1st, all characters who had a dream will find a prismatic crystal clenched in the palm of their hands. The crystal will reflect the contents of their dream, so long as they hold the same wish. If they change wishes or lose faith, then the crystal will turn black and melt into Rumor goo.

NPC characters may reply to dreams with clues. Please indicate which characters you want to receive clues by putting a “*” in their toplevel title. You may request clues for up to 3 characters. Thank you for your help!

[Yuuto, ever the good judge of character, smiles politely back at her. Wow, she seems so nice! He could die for her, probably.

His trusting nature is fine and healthy these days. Or more specifically, his desire to help anyone and everyone.]

Mostly. Sounds like you've got a lot goin' on. Guess if you can mess with time like that, managin' that ain't an issue.

[ She says non-chalantly, shrugging her shoulders. ]

Oh… Not really. I’m not busy, in any case.

[Pretending not to have problems is how you solve them, right?

He straightens his posture and nods.]

I pray that this mess gets cleaned up soon. We can fix whatever it is that we need t'fix and we get a safe and speedy trip back home. May this long vacation help me out in leadin' the gang back home.

[At first, Yuuto is heartbroken. He knows that he’s the weak link that prevents everyone from going home: It is supposed to be his job to send people back! But her wish seems so heartfelt and he can tell that she cares a lot about her friends back home. It reminds him that he cares a lot about people too.

Yuuto claps his hands three times before lowering his own head in prayer.]

Mm! May everyone get home quickly and safely. For the sake of those they love and those who love them… I’ll do my best!

Yuuto lowers his hands.]

Oh right. This is my shrine. Praying to myself is pretty stupid, huh..?

[ With that, she just gives him a laugh. ]

You'd be wastin yer time, yeah. Makes me wonder who's supposed to answer the kami's prayers.

[ It's lucky though. It's not the people she loves, but if that'll make him feel better about it, then sure. ]

Well, it’s hard to waste time when I control it!

[Yuuto tries to smile.]

I don’t think we’re supposed to have prayers. Answering yours should be enough for me. Sorry, I guess I lost focus. I’ll do better.

Sheesh. Kind've a pushover, ain't ya? Not sure I should be able t'make one of you feel bad that easy.

[ She puts her hands behind the back of her head, stretching slightly. ]

S'not that deep, sorry to tell ya. I just wanna go, but I'm sure I'm not gonna be the only one catchin' a ride back.

Au..? But I thought you mentioned some other people, didn’t you..?

[myturf]

Huh-- oh, y'mean my gang?

Yeah, I mean... it'd be nice t'see them again. I ain't really heartbroken over not seein' them though.

[spacialeyes]

Are you just really adaptable..? That's... [His voice trails off. He's not sure if that's a good thing or a sad one.]

[myturf]

Well... someone told me that we're cut off from the rest of time here, or somethin' like that. When I head back, it'll be like I never left, right? So, no point in missin' them if I ain't really missin' out on anything.

[ They'll still be around when she returns. Unless she's sent back to the past, where...

...nah. No reason to think about that. ]

Either way, I gotta be. If I don't adapt, I'm gonna regret it.

Mmm, that's not wrong. Even if you weren't cut off, my power should allow me to reconnect you to your original world once I'm able. It'll be like patching up a quilt or tightening a loose stitch.

[Oh right. No one cares what his power is like.]

I'm sorry. Adaptability isn't always a happy thing to learn to be, but you're right. If you don't adapt, it'll only get messier, huh?

[ That... draws a thoughtful glance out of Karin, though. To her, she's thinking of it as a web from what he's saying. Reconnecting...

Asking this was probably wrong, but her curiosity was getting the better of her. ]

When we go back, does it have to be from the last moment we were there? No chance in us headin' back to before then?

[There's not enough room in his heart for judgment: Too much space wasted on loving every person that he encounters. So Yuuto doesn't hesitate to answer nor does he sugarcoat the answer.]

When you go back in time, you risk creating a knot in the web. The future that you were in and all alternative times that branched from it will usually die off or corrupt. But I believe it is possible, yes. It's just... a burden, I'm sure.

[He shakes his head.]

Mortals don't typically get that power, so there isn't a huge pool of examples for extracting accurate data from.

Haaa... disappointin', but I get it. S'that one thing... like if a butterfly flaps their wings the wrong way, it changes everything around 'em?

Things wind up happenin' for a reason. No sense in askin' for a redo an' havin to figure everything out again.

[Then he remembers to restrain his teasing tone for a new friend and corrects himself:]

[ Of course, she only cares about her own timeline. If she disappeared for good, the town was good as toast. To her, anyway. ]

Home's way too heavy. I thought I'd be here maybe a month, but I'm still around. Figure it's because of the thing that's comin soon, huh.

I'm not really good at it, no. But I am surrounded by kind and strong people. That makes it easy!

I've met a lot of people, many times. So I've learned that even the most cruel people have kindness in them... They just need to be surrounded by nice people to nurture it, right?

[Yuuto smiles proudly,] So if you need anything to keep that kindness of yours bright, then leave it to me, Karin-san! I'll do my best!

[ Not to mention, her faith isn't easy to keep hold of. ]

[Yuuto's ears begin to turn a bit red. He's seen people give faith to his parents in many worlds and timelines, so he knows how to properly react... But instead, in this moment when he's surprised by her offer, he completely fumbles it;]

Y, yes! [And raises his fist to bump hers,] I'll be doing my best for you, Karin-san! Thank you very much!
