[ For the most part, coming to the ADA was beginning to be a common occurance. Between checking on Aimee and hanging out with Yayoi, Karin visited the Cafe more often and even started partaking in their drinks.

Today, she'd come with one of those weird books that had been circulated. She thumbed through it, very clearly noting how invasive most of this was. Some of the stories were vague, others definitely pointed out others to a T.

The one she read at this point, was about a girl who had made it to a city, who had hid behind a harmless appearance and suffered from loneliness.

Hm. It was kind of... surprising, she feels like she gets who this might be, but she wouldn't know for sure until she starts to relive that memory-- ]

Oh, Ms. Karin-san! I wasn’t expecting you.

[Aimee smiles and walks over to her friend, oblivious to the memory.]

Did you want coffee?

Cream an' sugar too--

[ She hardly has a chance to say anything else before shes' caught off guard by the memory presented to her. How quickly Aimee loses her chance at being a magical girl, but gains the ability to be an hit-woman for hire. There's guilt, for sure, but she's got a natural talent.

Fuck.

Once the memory ends, she's snapped back in. ]

W-What the fuck... was that?

[The moment Karin stops talking and reacting Aimee grows concerned. She’s by her side, her hands hovering right above her shoulders. Does she try to snap her out of it? Is she okay?

Hearing her words is a relief that nearly leaves Aimee sinking to her knees.]

M-Ms. Karin-san?!

Hey-- you're still here--

[ Fuck, she's feeling dizzy. Trying to shake whatever the hell that was off. ]

W-Water, you got water?

[She's never seen Karin look so...disoriented about anything. Even when they both saw spirits, Karin managed to hold it together and act strong. It's honestly frightening to see. Forcing a brave face, she nods and goes to get Karin a glass of cold water, focusing on how the frigid glass stings her palms and not Karin's expression as she hands it to her.]

It's...it's okay. You're okay.

[myturf]

Thanks.

[ Phew. The cold water's enough of a good shock to her system to calm her down a bit. Yeesh... ]

...I saw somethin' after I read the book. You were there, and a bunch'a shifty lookin' folks. You just wrapped up a job or two?

[Aimee’s glad Karin took the water. She would have certainly dropped it.

She smiles vacantly at the floor, her voice rising in nervousness.]

…Oh. You weren’t…I didn’t want you to see that.

[She has no reason to feel nervous. Karin already accepted her. So why does she want to bolt…?]

...if you didn't, then I didn't. I ain't gonna dwell on it.

Just, one thing. You hate bein'-- bein' that?

[ They're in public, she can't keep saying too much. ]

[She’s silent as she chews her lip, deep in thought. Should she hate it? Is that what is expected of her?]

…I think I hated some of the people. No- hate’s a strong word. I didn’t like everything I saw. I liked it more when my clients didn’t talk too much. I don’t need to hear whatever canned story they have to do my job.

But uhm…I don’t mind all of it either. Because it means I can help you!

That ain't what I asked. The actual act. Did you hate that?

[ Getting her hands dirty, having to kill for a living because it was the only thing she could do. ]

…Do you want me to hate it? Does that matter?

No. What I want doesn't mean shit in this case. I'm askin' what you, Aimee Brennan, likes and doesn't like. Because I'll tell ya. Whether you want a peaceful life or one where you play the bodyguard, that ain't gonna change me hangin' around you.

[Aimee tries smiling politely. Maybe if she does, Karin will stop asking her questions no one has bothered asking her before. She can’t stop the fleeting look of alarm, and lowers her gaze in shame.]

I don’t… I’m sorry. Why are you asking me?

Because, as much as I prefer havin' anyone servin' under me, you've also gotta live your own life. If bein' a fixer ain't what makes you happy, then don't fuckin' do it.

…What if I don’t care either way? It was just a job. And being a magical girl wasn’t much different.

I’m not very good at close combat! I’m sorry, I’m more reliable with a gun. But if I’m doing it and it makes you happy, then it’s different. Because I trust your judgment and I-!

...but if that's really the case that it doesn't bug ya, then I ain't gonna question it. I'm gonna keep you sharp though.

[She looks up in surprise, wringing her hands together and grasping at her skirt.]

Mn… I’ll keep working and get better! I won’t fail you, Ms. Karin-san!
