So you may be wondering... What even is the event this month? Well, for once you are getting an early summary! This post will act as a plotting post for the event, but you are also welcome to make use of the Discord plotting channels.

“There is a Kami among the Fallen Stars.”
“A Kami of Sin.”
“If you do something to hurt a Fallen Star, then she’ll spirit you away.”
“I heard that her name is Oyashiro-sama.”

On May 19th [Friday] there will be an IC setting change. The Rumor that has been spreading around the city will begin to change and revolve not around the Cherry Blossom Tree, but around one of the Fallen Stars. It will start small, maybe only muttered between one or two people, but by the end of the month it will begin to spiral out of control. And gradually, as the Rumor grows over the next few weeks, people around the city will begin to go missing. They leave puddles of Rumor Goo in their homes, which turn into cherry blossom petals and float away to the lowest level's Cherry Blossoom Tree.
Fallen Stars will be able to try to impact the Rumor and investigate the cause of its changing.

Then, ICly on the 29th (OOCly on May 23rd,) Fallen Stars will also begin to be affected by the Rumor. Anyone who feels that they have wronged or hurt a fellow Fallen Star will be "Spirited Away." But while the civilians are melting into goo and vanishing, Fallen Stars are spirited away in a different manner.

Instead of disappearing, Fallen Stars affected by the Rumor will be trapped between the Physical and Spirit realms. They will be able to see, hear, and touch spirits like any other person. In fact, the sudden light and sound will be overwhelming at first and they will need to adapt to it slowly. But once they have adapted to this change, affected Fallen Stars will discover something else about themselves: They can now access their own spirit magic. By focusing their idea of 'self,' Fallen Stars will be able to harness some of this magic for the rest of the event.

The stakes will rise at the Mid Point, which ICly occurs 24 hours after Fallen Stars begin feeling the affects of the Rumor. The theme of this event is Forgiveness, Self Love, and Confidence.

Because this event is dealing with temporary powersets, we are announcing it early so that you may all begin pre-planning. In order to gain temporary powersets from the event, you must submit your powerset idea over here and have it approved by a mod. Powersets can be submitted all of the way up until May 30th, so if you're late or stuck on an idea then don't worry! You may also use this post to plan and brainstorm.

There are a few things that you need to keep in mind!

Where do these powers come from?

Powers come from a characters' SPIRIT MAGIC. They realize that they have the same magic potential as spirits. Spirit Magic comes from the characters' soul and is a reflection of their own self-image. In other words, their powers come from what they believe about themselves. During this event, characters will not experience the effects of a Rumor and all of their powers have to come from within.

How are "Power Levels" determined?

By default, all powers will be lesser than a kami. Powersets cannot control whole concepts and should be localized. Your character can only effect their immediate surroundings. The strength of their power is also determined by how strongly they believe in themselves. Characters with low confidence or doubts will have less reliable powers than someone who believes in themselves. By resolving their doubts, characters can shift their strength during the event. The reverse is also true: Self doubt can suddenly restrict their powers.

Characters with no desire for power won't develop any at all.

What does the Spirit Realm look like?

The Spirit Realm is parallel to the Physical. It is very bright and filled with thousands of spirits and visible magic. Because of all of the spirits and magic, which produce light, it is blinding and overwhelming at first. And while spirits do not speak words, their humming will be heard through the mind: It's mentally straining rather than a physical burden on their ears. Lastly, spirits give off "emotional pulses," which can make characters feel their happiness and distress.

All of these factors can be controlled once characters learn to stop "tuning in," which will come naturally within an hour. If you do not want to play with these elements, then you can assume that your character "tuned out" immediately.

How do you determine powers?

Powers should have a connection to the characters' personality or "destiny" in some way. Vague concepts, I know. You more or less have complete freedom, so long as you can justify either of these elements. For example, a character who is emotional might have fire powers. A character with a rigid and "set in stone" destiny might have earth powers. A gossip might have enhanced hearing. Please be creative!

Please limit yourself to one or two powers for the event. Powers are all temporary.

What is the "title" and how do we pick it?

Titles are an OOC element, which is used for characters who might want to become kami. The mods will make note of the title you listed and keep it in mind for future events. Think of it as being like a Kami title (Kami of Love,) or Rumor title (Rumor of Loneliness.)

Character Name: Kokoro Belmont
Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Never!
Powerset Title: Fate
Powerset Description: Chains that can rise out of the ground/walls/etc. to bind and immobilize enemies.
Justification: Kokoro is torn between feeling trapped by the destiny she grew up with and wishing she were normal, and feeling trapped in Starsand and fighting off the temptation to just be normal that it brings, because she takes her duty and destiny as a whole very seriously and refuses to give in. She's especially been turning this over in her mind over the past while with her CR saying that they're better off here than at home or that destiny for them is something to escape.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? She doesn't need them, but sure, if it works!

Powerset Description: Tap can use light to create various effects, such as healing, barriers, constructs, or support others, as focused and channeled through her dances.

Powerset Title: Night
Powerset Description: Can create a localized field of Nighttime around her, where stars and the moon are inexplicably visible. In nighttime, she becomes stronger. Possibly able to also inflict some fear effects due to the long-held fear of the night in the deepest parts of humanity.
Justification: Fauna has always been themed around nocturnal predators. Her transformed state is named Night Wild, and she's always been a nocturnal person. She has also always felt safer at night due to the events of her own life. She likes night better than day.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Sure, if they come up!

Powerset Title: Specter
Powerset Description: Out of sight, out of mind. If Karin's not directly being looked at, she can disappear without a trace and still interact with those around her, though she can't be heard directly.
Justification: It's what Karin feels like she is twice. The first time after the death of her and her family, where she's trying to figure out what to even do with herself, leading her to be a delinquent. The second time's when her Onee-san dies, leaving her listless and, in her mind, unwanted. Cursing the world around her.

Powerset Title: Interference
Powerset Description: When she's upset, Ryoko can distort the area around her similar to that of her Closed Space. It's mainly just a bunch of static noises and imagery, making it hard for anyone near her to concentrate unless they're that focused.
Justification: Ryoko's big fear at the moment is interfering in other people's relationships and lives, and she usually stresses out to a point where she feels she's causing problems for everyone around her. Plus of course, her magi abilities center around spacial distortion, similar to that of the original Ryoko Asakura. But, also not really. IT'S CONFUSING.

Powerset Title: Stories
Powerset Description: The things he says can come true! I figure for the sake of not reaching kami levels this only affects a limited area, and only while he's continuously telling/adding on to the story
Justification: His whole thing is crafting stories and shows (that push the bounds of what is possible and also make people happy, but that part isn't super relevant to the powers i dont think?)

Powerset Title: Salvation
Powerset Description: A spectral set of piano keys appears before her, acting as a conduit for her real magic. When Kanade plays music, it can affect others - not based on the song, but Kanade's feelings. Her desire to save people will manifest as support magic; healing, various buffs, and extra resilience mostly, to reflect that feeling of pulling people out of the dark.
Justification: Kanade wishes to be a savior. Though she doesn't have much faith in herself right now due to lingering Facility trauma, that hasn't completely destroyed her desire to save others with her music. So it makes sense for her to develop magical music focused on support, rather than any combat-based capabilities.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Yes!

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? No
Powerset Title: Reflection
Powerset Description: When Aimee is around other affected Fallen Stars, she will be able to use their powersets, albeit with less control or strength similar to how a reflection in water becomes distorted.
Justification: Aimee has a shaky sense of self due to learning to frequently mirror people in order to survive and be accepted. She still isn't sure what she wants or values yet and usually puts the focus on others.

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Twice!
Powerset Title: Defiance
Powerset Description: One time per person, Soma may be able to enable that person to alter their immediate fate. This would basically be the same effect as rolling two D20s and keeping the better roll in D&D. I must emphasis the 'may be' part of that - I am in no way intending to give him dominion over Fate itself.
Justification: Soma's whole thing, as a character, is defying cursed fates - his own in particular.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Sure!

Character Name: Elliot Nightray
Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Yes!
Powerset Title: Balance
Powerset Description: Elliot can conjure a set of swords from nearby shadows (similar to Satou's ribbons) that he can control as well for a short period of time as well as strengthen his own sword. When he uses his power on his own sword, it goes from obsidian to blue and cannot be broken or damaged although Elliot still can be.
Justification: Elliot struggles with his internal conflict between striving live true to his values and the stories he idealized and accepting his and his family's past and actions. Instead of identifying with just light or dark, he can start to find himself somewhere in between and accept himself, and his power also "balances" the fact that he's a pretty ordinary human amidst many Fallen Stars with supernatural abilities and kami.

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? SHE ARRIVED THIS MONTH
Powerset Title: Selene
Powerset Description: Mei draws upon whatever moonlight that can get into Starsand for strength, allowing her to, among other things, remain energized in the night time and otherwise being able to supplement her already existing thunder abilities.
Justification: Mei's deep-seated bond with Kiana forms the crux behind this power. Not a day goes by where she doesn't think of how she's doing, and when they might be able to reunite, and every time her thoughts drift to the most important person in her life, she gazes up at the moon, as if asking it -- her -- for guidance.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Yes!

Powerset Title: Oyashiro-sama's Curse
Powerset Description: The 45 foot radius around Rika becomes a maze with tall flowering walls, which causes her to run in circles. She is unable to exit the maze and get where she's trying to go. When others enter her maze, they will be met with silly traps that make it difficult to reach Rika.
Justification: Rika felt like June of 1983 was a maze. But in this particular case, Rika is also trying to ensnare the people close to her in a confused, hypocritical attempt to move forward in her life while also keeping the people (Hanyuu) from her past.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Sure!

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Yes
Powerset Title: Glen Baskerville
Powerset Description: Leo can create copies of himself that are made of light. However, the copies of himself speak his mind more freely than Leo himself.
Justification: Leo is the reincarnation of Glen and his soul is shown as a 'meeting place' for all of the past Glen reincarnations. They manifest as glowing silhouettes and, in theory, advise him on how to behave as Glen.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Sure!

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Nope
Powerset Title: Tenacity
Powerset Description: During moments of peril/when fighting, the power dulls Taiga's sense of pain so she can persevere through injuries. She can't completely shut out all pain, especially if it were a major injury, but it would leave it at a dull ache. This also doesn't change the fact that an injury is an injury, and pain responses exist for very good, important reasons. The pain will also return once the situation is no longer dangerous.
Justification: Taiga's entire story arc is based around trying to find the strength to persist in life despite how much she struggles with it. A lot of that is because she's very emotionally fragile, but in this case it's playing with the idea of physical struggles.
Do you wish for these powers to come up again in future event plotting? Yes!

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Yes
Powerset Title: Delusion
Powerset Description: Kimiko can form a barrier of spider lilies around her to function as a shield. The strength of this barrier is dependent on how how she is feeling. If Kimiko is leaning heavily on her delusions, the barrier will be weaker than if she's willing to accept the truth of things. At it's worst, the barrier will not protect her, and immediately fade if interacted with. The barrier is unable to protect anyone else.
Justification: Kimiko's mental state is propped up by various delusions in order to protect herself from truths that she doesn't want to face. Also, spider lilies are thematic :p

Powerset Title: Happy Highschool Life
Powerset Description: Saki has superstrength and speed. However, she still has her normal (low) stamina.
Justification: Saki has been sickly for her entire life and desperately wants to live a normal and energetic life. Her powers are the health and strength she wants, but not the stamina.

Were they kidnapped by the Facility? Yep! And it went really poorly for her!
Powerset Title: Song
Powerset Description: Pidonus' music magic becomes a bit stronger - and she can make it manifest without needing to specifically perform it herself. This would include inspire courage and inspire competence party buffs, and fascinate which can draw people's attention for a fair length of time. With Mod approval/suggestion, she might be able to make new abilities out of performances.
Justification: Pidonus' self-identity as a Bard is stronger than, but also connected to, her identity as a Succubus. Her music is what justifies her existence, in her perception.

Given that the Fallen Stars who have obtained abilities will be able to see into the spirit realm, here is where players can opt in and describe their characters' souls and what they look like.

Himeko's soul is weird as all hell.

If one is looking at her soul while not in the spirit realm, they will see a blue heart with the edges of the heart being the all too familiar Rumor goo color.

However- if they are looking at her soul in the spirit realm specifically, her soul looks like herself. But as of right now, she will have the distortion eyes when looking at her soul in this way.

People who are looking at Ushio's soul will notice that her soul is literally on the floor, but it does look like Ushio.

Everyone else has normal souls that look like themselves.

Samantha’s soul appears as a very bright light, almost like a star, due to how much magic she has stored in it.

Ai's soul is janked!!! It's a normal human soul that seems to have been shattered or somehow ruptured with huge cracks splintering out from the center like a busted pane of glass. Strange refractions can be seen in each individual bit of glass – all of them are Ai but they all look different and somehow... not quite right. All in all, the vibes are just absolutely atrocious!!

There is a chance for characters to encounter and try to calm the Rumor of Oyashiro-sama. There will be 3 groups max with 2 characters. You cannot encounter both the Tree Spirit and Oyashiro-sama.
