After two days of rain, the weather in Starsand City clears up. Clear skies full of sun dominate the weather reports for the next few weeks. As does the unique tradition of "Reblooming," which keeps the cherry blossom trees in constant bloom. Starnet finally comes back online as well, just as a number of events begin to liven up the city. And, beneath it all, the past and future haunt as one.
Because by May 10th, a familiar Rumor is spreading... "If you interact with the Fallen Stars, you'll disappear."
On May 3rd, Starnet will come back online. All Starnet connected devices will show a pink screen for ten seconds while they boot up, followed by a message:
Welcome to Starnet, Fallen Stars!
This is the Kami of Love speaking.
I've created a network that will connect your hearts. To sign on, please visit the Shrine of Love in order to tune your devices to the network. Simply being near the shrine should be enough for it to activate!

Fallen Stars will not be able to access the messaging portion of Starnet until they've visited the shrine.
'Reblooming' is much like Japanese hanami, split into daytime and nighttime picnics. The daytime picnics are just what they sound like: People go to parks where cherry blossom trees are blooming and have a picnic. In Starsand, these picnics will also take place near spirit shrines. They may even be on street corners, outside shops, or other places where a spirit shrine may be found. The goal being to have a little picnic party with the spirit and give them faith. These parties produce a lot of Starling too, making them investments that people repeat throughout the month.
Nighttime 'Reblooming' is where the event's name comes from. At exactly midnight, all of the day's fallen cherry blossoms will float back to their original tree and 'rebloom.' This means that May's night skies are full of cherry blossom petals and are quite spectacular to watch. Businesses stay open until 3am in order to sell food and supplies to the late night picnickers.
Unfortunately, maid week is back. And Berri is copy/pasting last year's description.
The city's atmosphere is unusually bright in the days leading up to May 10th. Gossip about Fallen Stars being 'ill omens' and 'bad luck' is briefly drowned out by the more pressing issues of M A I D S. Specifically: Maid Week. Which, this year, covers two weeks: May 7th until May 14th.
When prompted, cityfolk will explain that the event is actually a citywide cleaning event. Everyone in the city gets together not just to clean the streets, but to repair things and decorate. It's common for walls to be set aside for drawing on with chalk or for entire art projects. People who specialize in repairs or building will loan their skills to the public in order to better the city. Friends often get together to repair and clean each other's homes as well.
These efforts are given mostly for free... "Mostly." You see in Starsand, there is no longer a use for money. Spirits can provide most anything that you need in exchange for prayers, so coin money is becoming irrelevant. But when you work hard and passionately in Starsand, your emotions create something called a "Starling." These magical items look like konpeito and they have the same magical value as an hour of intense prayer. Starlings can be given to spirits for quick miracles, so they've become a sort of "faith currency."
During Maid Week, a lot of Starling is produced. When your character lends their help, they will produce Starling equal to how passionate they were about the task. For example, hating your job will result in one or two tiny Starling pieces per hour. But if you are doing something that you brings you joy, you will create bigger and more pieces. Because of this, people are encouraged to make the act of cleaning and helping as fun as possible. Some turn it into a game or a chance to hang out with friends, while some get playfully competitive.
Oh, but the most important part?
Maid outfits. Normally, the amount of Starling produced when doing household chores is minimal. You get more Starling at licensed places of business, where a special shrine is built to amplify the power. In order to make "Seasonal Cleaning Week" produce more Starling, a special enchantment was made... This enchantment triples the amount of Starling a person produces, which makes Maid Week more profitable (and appealing.) And, you guessed it... The enchantment only works on maid outfits. Wow. Weird.
So grab your maid outfit and earn yourself some magic konpeito! This isn't a fabricated excuse for maids at all!

Throughout the month, this Rumor will become more prevalent. Civilians still offer help to the newly arriving Fallen Stars, but by the end of Maid Week they are beginning to lessen their efforts. No longer do they rush to the aid of Fallen Stars, showering them with gifts and advice. They offer the bear minimum, but mostly suggest they visit a shrine for help before running away.
"Fallen Stars have come to bring bad luck to us all."
"Fallen Stars only take and don't contribute."
"Fallen Stars think they're better than us, because they have weird powers."
Those who were here in the last timeloop may remember how this Rumor ended: Civilians melted into piles of starry black goo and many people suddenly went missing, only for it to be discovered that a cherry blossom tree on the lowest level was to blame. Because the lowest floor doesn't practice many spirit-related customs, that tree has been unable to rebloom. Its petals fall slowly. By May 10th, it barely has any left. Those with the ability to hear spirits may hear the Cherry Blossom spirit crying, but they cannot find them...

[ While Kana may still be relatively new to the city of Starsand, that doesn't mean that she's going to slack off.
The first thing she needs to do is build up a reputation as an actress. It's all that she has.
So she decides that she needs to put on some sort of show... and while she's alone at the moment, she can play the roles, certainly. It's not anything original: just one of the classics as she walks in with full confidence here volume loud enough to hear; it's clear through her voice that she wants the attention- craves it.
Her voice reverberates with desperation and emotion with every syllable, every word she speaks; it's clear that she's well practiced. ]
"Wilt thou be gone? It is not yet near day. It was the nightingale, and not the lark, that pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear; nightly she sings on yond pomegranate tree. Believe me, love, it was the nightingale."
[ And with a step to her right, she shifts her demeanor and voice, deepening it. Making sure that she's another character altogether.
She's making it clear and obvious that even as she perform that the audience has their trained eyes on her and her movements, on her voice. ]
"It was the lark, the herald of the morn, no nightingale. Look, love, what envious streaks do lace the severing clouds in yonder east. Night's candles are burnt out, and jocund day stands tiptoe on the misty mountain tops. I must be gone and live, or stay and die."
[ Kana keeps going with this until the scene ends. If she hears any applause or other voices once things are said and done, she finds her eyes widening in surprise; it was just a spur of the moment scene, and she didn't even showcase all of her talent in that moment.
But this is her chance, isn't it? ]

[Having finally gotten an outfit for herself, Tap is having a great time. She can be found... well, almost anywhere. She's helping out in restaurants and cafes, sweeping outside, and otherwise just flitting about wherever it looks like someone might need assistance.
You might find her in a cafe, bringing you your order and doing the usual "Become tasty~ ♥" spell. You might find her running about the various shrines, helping sweep or clean up. You might just find her browsing a clothing store to try to find extra backup outfits!
But either way, she's having a great time.]

No more time for maid fun. Tap immediately takes the elevator to the lowest level, and begins to search. Somehow, she can still hear the spirit, just like she could at the Facility... But no time to question that.

Running Errands
[For the past few days, Elliot has been mostly on autopilot. He feels like he's been stuck in a daze he can't drag himself out of, and the cold he caught isn't helping. It shouldn't have been shocking, after everything they all went through and then spending hours in the cold rain that there were Fallen Stars falling ill...but that doesn't make it any less annoying. Can't they get a break?
Even though he feels and looks like shit, he's still out, searching for jobs and doing other mundane tasks like shopping for groceries. He would rather feel like garbage and force himself to stay busy than rest with his thoughts and spiral again. He'll focus on the people he can protect. It's all he can do. The issue with being on autopilot is when he's not paying attention, he ends up visiting the same places he used to, in the previous timeline. It's not the first time he's ended up outside the cat cafe he used to work at since arriving, but that doesn't stop him from looking a bit wistful, his smile not quite reaching his eyes as he places his palm to the window and talks to a certain kitten with large green eyes.]
Hey... You're probably safer there. I mis- ...I guess I'll see you later.
Maid Week
[The past keeps repeating and Elliot's sick of this shit. As he goes out, he tries to avoid making eye contact with anyone in a maid or butler outfit and keeps his glares to a minimum. It's no wonder Yuuto has such a weird fascination with maids. This whole city is weird.
He's done a very good job at refraining from yelling at anyone up until this point and keeping his head down and hands shoved in his pockets while grumbling under his breath. Unfortunately for the next person who asks him if he wants to participate, that doesn't last.]
I REFUSE TO WEAR ONE OF THOSE STUPID OUTFITS TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR CREEPY AND SHAMELESS TRADITION! I will never participate, no matter how many times you ask me!

[Elliot tries to ignore the gossip and whispers at first. He doesn't care what the civilians say about him because they're right. But this doesn't just affect him. It hurts everyone who ended up here, and if it keeps up it's going to hurt the civilians as well. He remembers what happened. He doesn't want to see anymore distraught tears. He doesn't want the new Fallen Stars to blame themselves. He's tired of seeing people get hurt. So on May 8th the next time he hears someone whispering a rumor, and sounding so smug on top of it-"Fallen Stars think they're better than us, because they have weird powers"-he sees red and grabs the civilian by the collar, lifting him up to his eye level, his voice low. He ran out of patience a week ago.]

[ It's strange, being in this city and having none of the locals remember her.
But that's exactly why, once the rain lets up, that she becomes one of Starsand's new promising transfer students at the high school. Now that she's eighteen, she's enrolled as a third year, doing the proper stuff-
Introducing herself, of course: "Hello, my name is Asahina Mafuyu. I may come from a foreign world, but I would like to continue my studies here while I can. Thank you very much for having me, and let's get along."
Fielding any questions from the other students- "Do you have any hobbies?" "I was in the archery club back home. I was thinking of joining the one here, actually." "What do you like?" "Hmm... the aquarium? Oh, I do also enjoy sports and music as well." "Is that a spirit that you have, Mafuyu?" "Oh, yes...! I thought that it would be nice to fit in with the customs of this world. This little one here is named Akiya; they enjoy putting me in costumes quite a bit." And so on and so forth.
Others who might be in her class might notice that she answers all the academic questions with ease and is even quite talented when it comes to sports. It's easy to see how she shines brightly in an academic setting like this.
But this also means that she might wind up with a rival...
She does have to apologize after class, however, telling the others that she has a friend that she needs to check up on and that she'll see them tomorrow.

[ Given that Inaba finds herself sick on the third, it takes her another whole day to actually get Starnet started.
There's a few things she needs to get out there, after all. So a message comes from the username Inaban as per usual: ]

I know we have a few new people and those who remember what happened. For the former: welcome to Starsand. If you need a primer on what's been going on and have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
And for everyone, I have a bit of an announcement.
We're creating a community center for Fallen Stars this month. This community center will be a place where we can hold in person meetings as well. Meetings will obviously be utilized to make sure that everyone is well informed and can be up to date with all the information that we can use to deal with Rumors, Distortions, the Facility and just helping out Starsand and the city in general. I don't expect this building to be built quickly, so it might take until at least mid-month for it to get done; so if anybody wants to hold a separate meeting to catch everyone up before then, feel free.
If anybody wants to help out with anything regarding this project, please don't hesitate to message me.
And lastly, to cap this off, for those who are close to Yuuto, could you contact me at the number I'm going to give below? It's important.

[ Once she's fully recovered from her cold, she actually needs to start getting back to work. Which is exactly what she does, first starting with finding herself a home on the first level.
Once that's done, she can be found at the cherry blossom tree here- and even though there isn't a sign of the spirit that was usually here, that doesn't stop her from visiting every day that she can. If they're going to change the outcome of events here, this is where they need to start. In fact, she'll even eat her lunch out here, looking a bit contemplative. People might even see her on her laptop, jotting down notes as she goes.
Inaba can also be found at the Spacetime Shrine too- she needs to grab some of her stuff, after all and even asks a few spirits to help her with getting her computer to her house. Which is definitely a sight to behold. How many spirits does it take to lug a computer? Guess. ]

[ It isn't Inaba's first time wearing a maid outfit. She's done it to get information out of people before and she thinks that she can probably do it again to see if there are any changes between this timeline and the last.
After all, there might be some miniscule differences.
Which is why Inaba can be found doing several maid-like tasks with a smile such as sweeping the ground on the upper levels.
But she can also be found assisting in various shops as a waitress, utilizing a much higher pitch than what is her norm: ]

[B) Reblooming Picnics]
[During the evenings and night, Pidonus Marasia will be dressing in her miko's outfit, and kind of randomly going around cleaning up and providing basic rituals to small shrines around her.
During this time, a small, fox-like spirit is often seen around her, often sweeping up rice with their tails, yipping along happily at Pidonus engaging with them outside of the Shrine of Sin.
Other times, she may be in something closer to her usual outfit, playing music to accompany surrounding picnics and enhance the atmosphere. Feel free to bother her in either time.
Most importantly, she will intentionally be trying to do some of these ceremonies, where she can, on the lower level. She's careful to not do so too close to civilians, but try to offer some comfort to the less-tended spirits down here. She remembers how this ended last time, and if she can even delay or lessen it...]

[... It seems like someone may have pulled a bit of something on a certain Succubus - probably by severely outpacing her until she had a slightly different sort of servant's outfit on. This isn't stopping her from trying to clean places up, but it may result in some amount of distraction.]

So. It's starting again.
For those who weren't here last May - this rumor led to local civilians disappearing from around the city. Last time, a cherry blossom tree that was unable to rebloom due to a lack of spiritual support was responsible - it wound up with us having to fight it.
I may or may not have made some particularly bad decisions before the fight. Try not to treat rumor things like they're ducks. You shouldn't feed ducks bread either, actually. Found that out a while back.
A-anyways! I'd like to work to counter this rumor, but which front to target is a big question, and I'd prefer not to be the one planning.

[There's only so many times that a man can be led to a tree by his spirit before he can no longer ignore the message. Which is why he's sitting on a picnic blanket eating a sandwich with his doll and spirit friend. He's sharing senses with the spirit inside the doll, so he can actually enjoy the view.]
Something like this...is truly astounding.

[Break heard about Maid Week, and that he could be dressed as a butler and it still work. He wanted to do something nice for his spirits. Imagine his surprise when he gets home from getting his new outfit to find its a dress! He's not one to admit to strangers that he's wrong, so he's now wearing it out on the street, furiously cleaning.]
Idiots, the lot of them.

[ While Karin can't necessarily say she missed Starnet, she can't deny that it's useful. Having an information network at her fingertips kept her in the loop, even if she's not necessarily pals with anyone who'd have a ton of it. The less she was in the dark, the better, especially considering she's basically in it for the long haul.

[ The good news is that Ryuunosuke was able to acquire a face mask pretty easily. The bad news is that she's suffering from a cold, which she's... far too stubborn to let stop her. Most of her day's being spent trying to find the best place to settle for a home, considering she can't just leech off of the locals the whole time.
She can be found looking about different businesses, occasionally sniffling and coughing a bit, yet always asking-- ]

[ After she's recovered, she decided to look into this whole Maid Week deal. She's had a chance to actually interact with a maid, and it seems like while she had a few misunderstandings about it, it might be something cute, something she could actually pull off...!
So then why is it that when she went to claim a dress, she wound up leaving dressed as a butler?!
Well, whatever. It just helps her go back to what she was doing: searching for odd jobs! Except now, she's gotta be careful not to do anything rough or anything like that. She's gotta return the costume later, after all!
Regardless, Ryuunosuke can be found cleaning out in front of various shops. You might catch her at the end of the day, wiping away sweat and nodding her head at the shopkeeper. ]

[ So, originally, she had no idea what the hell Rumors were and why this was a bad thing. So they made a rumor. It was dumb, paying attention to it would just make things worse, so they could just ignore it.
Except, when the people that had been so kind to her at the beginning slowly started to lose interest, and stop being so warm to her. It was kind of annoying, and the ones that ran away started bugging her the most.
So much that after a while, she's started on the only thing she could do. Which was trying to chase one down. ]
Oi, hold on! [ She yells out, sifting through any of the civilians who aren't getting out of her way. ] What do you mean "better than you"?! I ain't got weird powers!
[ She might've overheard some murmuring, and she wants to get to the bottom of this! So much show that she's not paying attention to anything else, so when a Fallen Star appears in front of her, she's too caught up in her chase that-- uh oh. ]

[ Ryoko may be on house arrest, but Taiga knew it would be bad if they both cooped up together after the near apocalypse they experienced. After trying to see if the flower shop she had helped at was still around, the difference in how civilians treated her was too obvious to ignore.
Taiga's on the lower level, a place that she honestly hadn't checked out before. People who had been in Starsand longer mentioned the tree, and she felt obligated to pay it a visit. It's only right to do so, and it must be lonely for the spirit to go unsupported. ]

[ Taiga might not have been the most willing particpant in this, but she does find herself in a maid outfit. When you find yourself with 10 more spirits to handle, Starling becomes a bit higher in demand so sacrifices must be made. (heh) There's also only so much you can do in the house before you run out of things to do, and she's a little overwhelmed by Ryoko being... Ryoko. It's nice to get away from that for a little bit!
She can be found going from store to store in the shopping district, asking if there was anything to be done. If she spots someone she knows, Taiga jogs over to give a hello. ]

It's embarrassing, but Saki quickly decides this is a dream. After all... The fantastical buildings, the glowing 'spirits,' having all of the free food and clothes that she wants...
Saki has to be dreaming.
So if her dream is going to feel so real, then her fun is going to be real too! Saki can be found browsing clothing shops, trying out drinks at cafes, and- mostly importantly,- visiting to music samples at CD shops.]

Ai Hoshino ★ Oshi no Ko
[ When stars die, they burn their brightest before collapsing and taking everything else with them. Ai had heard that on some trivia program she was in however long ago and the image had stuck with her. She didn't really know why. It'd been the furthest thing from her mind a moment ago, but when she finds herself suddenly on a warm, cherry blossom scented street corner, arms empty and her clothes clean and warm, it clicks itself into her head. Burning her brightest before fading away.
A door gently tinkles open just to her left and the owner of the little store she'd appeared beside comes out with a patient smile and sets a gentle hand on Ai's shoulder before asking if she's alright. The question cracks the shield of serenity she'd formed over her feelings and she shocks the poor woman and herself both by bursting into the loudest, most embarrassing storm of braying tears she's let loose since she was a child. Maybe ever.
No. She's not alright.
A few days have passed since that embarrassing display and Ai has................. uh, well, to be honest things aren't really going that much better! She's done an excellent job of pretending it never happened and pointedly not answering any questions and smiling like a fool until her face aches and eventually it leads the very kind people who are doing their best to help to stop asking questions and let her be after directing her to one of the shrines. Someone's kind enough to provide her with a phone and she gets connected to the little network of people like her who've stumbled in to this place, willingly or not.
She wonders if this is a dream, maybe. Or if like her, all of them are actually– ]

[ When Ai explores the city, it's typically at night. There's fewer people around and the dark, starry sky reminds her of a little hospital out of the way in the countryside she hasn't thought of in some time. She wonders if the doctor there even remembers her. Maybe he'll see the news. If there is any.
She spends a few evenings sitting under cherry blossom trees and watching the petals dance around the sky. Ruby and Aqua would have loved to see something like this. She never had the chance to take them to a hanami picnic but she knows they would have had fun. Saitou and Miyako would have come too, if only to deflect any awkward questions from anyone who'd recognize her, but having them there would have made things even more fun. A horrible, bitter feeling fills her stomach when she wonders if Miyako will ever take them to one herself.
Aah, it's hanami season, isn't it? Even if it's an unusual now. And she's twenty whole years old now, big whoop. Maybe she should try enjoying herself here while she can. If she can.
Putting on her best and brightest smile, Ai brushes herself down and makes her way out from under the tree to approach one of her fellow picnicers. Despite her smile, she has the slightly wan look of a person who's recently done a bit too much crying and not enough rehydrating. ]
It's so beautiful out, isn't it? It's the kind of thing that really gets your appetite going – you don't know where we can get food and drinks, do you?
