For those new to Starsand, one of the standout locations is a shrine that lies atop a large set of stone steps next to an actively running waterfall.

While it can be easily found out if asked who this shrine belongs to, there's no big glaring sign that will tell you the location's name.🗈

And even though the kami are meant to relax on this month dedicated to the spirits - there's no true rest here.

Of course, you might be greeted by one of the other shrine workers, or perhaps even the kami herself. She's a standout amongst those here: instead of wearing her usual garb as Oyashiro-sama, she in a much more standout outfit.

And of course, she will be taking any prayers, listening to any problems people may have.

But you might want to make sure to purify yourself at the temizuya too.

[ A new face has wandered into the shrine today.

He's dressed in a cloak and a robe like someone who should be tending to some otherworldly church, yet his demeanor at the moment seems to be more exhausted than anything. Mentally and physically. He clearly needed a break away from all the madness of the city he'd been unceremoniously stranded in. Just a moment of peace to collect his thoughts...

He wasn't expecting to find a magnificent temple here. The locals would call this a shrine? It's a magnificent thing of beauty compared to a simple shrine...

He feels a bit safer here, but he hasn't been able to let down his guard. Every so often he'd glance behind himself, half expecting to be followed... He's not even sure if he should approach who he assumes are followers. They seem docile enough, but he can't be sure about those who serve a god he's not familiar with... ]

[ That's... definitely a fresh face. At least one that she isn't familiar with. It's enough for her to float on over, looking a little curious. ]

Um.

[ Her voice is soft, a little awkward. ]

Hello, are you new here?

[ Forgive him if she notices the slight jolt of fright when she announces herself, she did catch him off guard. He noticed the horns first, but what creature has horns that point downward? And her robes, beautiful as they are, more ornate compared to the rest of the shrine workers...

He quickly tried to compose himself. ] Yes, I found myself in these lands not too long ago. [ He's just the slightest bit wary as he looks her over, but there is an attempt to be respectful enough. ] Am I speaking to one of the gods of this world?

[ Gods, Kami, the word seems to have the same meaning from what he's gathered. Please be one of the more merciful ones... ]

[ And it's right then and there that Hanyuu straightens herself out and her act, clearing her throat before speaking up once again. While she generally acts more casually amongst those who visit her as to not give anyone a fright, this seems to be more... official business of sorts, so she shifts her demeanor to suit the situation.

She still hovers slightly above the ground, but when she speaks again, the words are much more firm. The shyness dropped, but there is still an air of something polite in every syllable she speaks. ]

I see.

[ ... ]

I am no god. [ She wants to preface this first before there are any further misunderstandings. ] I am the kami of this shrine -- a smalltime one that is not of this world, but one nevertheless. I go by the name of Oyashiro-sama, though many know me as the 'kami of sin'.

[ She introduces herself with the name that she uses as a kami. ]

[Any of the staff will have been informed about the plan Rinne and Velda hatched to show Hanyuu their appreciation. A room in the shrine is decorated with salvaged flowers and paper chains, there's a cake that's decorated with pink sprinkles, and tied with a ribbon is a mug reading WORLD'S GREATEST BOSS.]

Think we did a good enough job?

[ The two have gone all out! Well, kind of. The salvaged flowers have been joined with paper flowers of all kinds, crafted by Rinne in his downtime lately... and otherwise, he's been more in charge of ensuring everything was in its proper place. ]

Surely. This offering should be good enough to make any boss blush.

[ Normally this would lead to a raise, but instead, it was to show Hanyuu a lot of appreciation?! ]

Hope so! And since there's enough cake for everyone, she hopefully won't get too embarrassed or protest too much about special treatment? I mean, I hope so, anyway.

[ When Hanyuu finds the room, she finds herself widening her eyes in surprise and awe -- she clearly didn't expect this at all. ]

[ But now she's debating on something for the future. Hm. ]

[ Hanyuu: doesn't think that she's a good boss at all. ]

[ Luz is standing on the top step a stepladder, fastening the last paper chain to the wall. ]

I just wish I'd been here long enough to figure out a good gift...

[ Instead, she just ended up pitching in on the group gift Velda had suggested. But as a new employee, she still felt the need to make a good impression. ]

[ There are very rarely points where Rinne Rokudo is anywhere but the Shrine of Sin. Considering he's decided on working there, and he feels comfortable just existing there in general, he's always out and about running smaller errands and making sure the grounds are clean.

This month however, he's a bit busier than normal. As the month is dedicated to kami and spirits relaxing, Rinne has made it a point to ensure that the Shrine is getting into the festive spirit. So he's out decorating, greeting spirits as they come along with offerings from time to time, and occasionally directing those to the temizuya.

[ During her first few days at the shrine, Luz has been looking to those who look like they know what they're doing, and Rinne is one of those such people. This is not the first time she's approached him today, nor will it be the last. ]

Where do you want this to go?

[ She holds up a large plastic skeleton, whose bones jangle around appropriately as he's moved. It seems like a strange decoration to have sitting around at a place of worship, which probably explains why Luz is so stuck on what she should do with it. ]

[ It was certainly strange, of course. Rinne wasn't super sure about the decorations himself, but 'tis the season. Different season. Luckily, he manages to keep that appearance together... he takes his job very seriously, after all. ]

I was thinking of having that near the inflatable tombstone, but I decided against getting that. Hmmm...

[ What to do. ]

We should put it somewhere out of the way, but nowhere that it could potentially actually frighten anyone that comes by. That would be bad for the shrine.

[Pidonus Marasia is usually seen around the Shrine of Sin, working on basic tasks like sweeping the grounds and basic ceremonies. She usually has a shrine maiden's outfit on, and often spends quite a bit of time just sweeping...

... Including at the weird hours of the night. After all, she doesn't sleep. This may mean that late night visits involve her guiding spirits to specific areas, or just chatting with people who are hopefully not here to try and cause problems.]

[There's a strange person in a girl's highschool uniform standing at the entrance to the shrine today. For whatever reason, they seem perfectly content to merely stand at the top of the steps and go no further for now as they observe any others coming and going, or what can be seen of the shrine without having to pass through the gate.

Upon realizing that they're being observed, they turn their rather empty-looking eyes upon you, a smile already fixed in place.]

My, my. If you're going to stare at me like that, the least you can do is introduce yourself, you know.

[ Rinne, from inside of the shrine himself, typically kept an eye on visitors who came and went. He really didn't need to, but he just wanted to make sure nobody was causing trouble or being wasteful, or anything like that.

It took him a moment to notice someone had been idly standing nearby, and he felt like he should investigate-- before he's called out. ]

Rinne Rokudo. I'm a volunteer at this shrine. Do you have business here?

"Business"? That's an interesting word to use... though I don't know if it's the one I would have used.

[For some reason, they seem to be rather amused by the other's words before they wave a sleeve covered hand about in the air next to them.]

Let me ask, then, if you'll indulge me for a moment: what kind of "business" do you think a stranger might have with a shrine like this one?
