【NETWORK INFO - "starnet"】
the ic network
welcome to STARNET
When arriving in Starsand City, new characters will have nothing but the clothes on their backs... and now, a communication device! Spirits will gather around newly arriving characters and create a Starnet Device for them, which connects them to the new Starnet. This will also give characters access to some limited internet, plot information, and quickly connect them to fellow Fallen Stars.

What is Starnet?
- Starnet is a private network for Fallen Stars. It is a chatting app much like Discord and connects all Fallen Stars to a central group chat. They will also be able to privately DM each other using text, voice, and video. Upon first signing in, Starnet will request a unique username. If characters do not set a name themselves, then the spirits will generate one for them.
When using Starnet, please mark your post or top-level comment as [NETWORK] so that other players know it is a network post. The default for Starnet is text messaging, so please also indicate if your character is using voice, video, or text in order to help your fellow players. We currently have no special network community, because the mod is in denial about the scope of this totally-not-a-game.
How is the Starnet username set?
- Much like Discord, characters have a permanent ID and then the ability to change their ID per chatroom.
Their permanent ID is the name they identify with, but their chat ID can be changed to anything. Chat IDs are displayed publicly and permanent IDs are kept private. Characters have one account, except in the case of two souls in one character/possession: Each soul would have its own account. When taking control of another character's device, the login switches to match the soul of whoever is controlling the device.
What is the "communication device"?
- Starnet devices are made with spirit magic. Once they are formed, they cannot be nullified by nullification abilities and have permanent physical forms. However, magic may be used at any time to modify the device's appearance.
The default for a Starnet device is an old fashioned flip-phone. The colour tends to reflect the characters' preference or appearance. However, it can be customized simply by visualizing what the ideal communication device would be. All that is required in some sort of 'screen.' This can mean anything from a modern phone to a gaming console or even a diary or sketchbook. Soul magic will change the 'screen' to reflect the chat messages.
Curiously, Starnet and the communication devices are immune to nullification. If physically taken apart, the device will separate into puzzle pieces and then turn into sparkles. The device will be recreated by the nearest spirit.
Old communication devices from a characters' home world can be connected to Starnet.
What can be accessed via Starnet?
- There is very limited internet. Unfortunately, Starnet does not connect Fallen Stars to regular civilians. It seems that most regular civilians (sans Kami and their family,) simply cannot create a Starnet connection or device. This means that internet access is also limited to whatever Fallen Stars share with each other in the public chat channels. There is no wifi or internet browsing.
It is possible to create&upload text files, photographs, and artwork.
Can characters create private / specific chats & channels?
- Yes. Please indicate if something is locked with [LOCKED] & [PRIVATE] title headings.
Characters can create smaller group chats (private&public.) and 1on1 private messaging channels. However, please do not use these method to routinely isolate other players from participating in plot activities.
Can characters hack Starnet?
- At present, Starnet cannot be hacked. It does not use any sort of coding, but it instead powered by 'soul magic' from the character themselves. If a character passes out, their Starnet account will go offline.
